I'm a young LEO in Florida, really just wanted to see what the board's consensus was.

I'm not sure about your hometowns but for every speeding ticket we write at my agency we get close to $0.23 from the fine. I have made close to 150 traffic stops and have actually written 12 tickets. Not big on tickets because I don't enjoy taking money out of people's pockets that could be used to pay bills. I get the undereducated thing because a lot of the old school guys don't have higher education and have only known law enforcement but I'm seeing most of the younger guys in our agency have undergrad degrees or are working on it or their graduate degrees.

I know I'm biased towards law enforcement obviously and was interested in everyone's opinion.

I completely understand some people not liking law enforcement because I have worked with some bad apples who have most certainly left a bad impression of law enforcement on citizens.

Honest question, when you see a biker wearing a three piece patch, how do you approach any interaction with them?

I'm not big on DUIs but yeah I do that to almost every car I get behind, I'd venture to say everyone does.

Like a person, I treat everyone the same. I wish I could say everyone does but it's not true. I've dealt with only a few bikers but all of them have been really cool.

I'm sure the odds increase when get behind a camaro or charger and see a flurry or dreadlocks and gold teeth to check for a warrant.

Then again if the cars registered in some one else's name and the drivers dirty, how do you get around that?

Spot on. In 34 years I have observed much the same. The sign of a good LEO is when your peers seek you out when they need help the most or when outside agencies request you as their go to guy. In my estimation it's a simple job that requires common sense and a strong sense of right and wrong. The ability to compartmentalize emotions allows you to function in spite of the unpleasant things you may encounter. Admit your mistakes and don't repeat them. It's what I do but not what I am and I believe that has sustained me since I started.

They have a very difficult job in this politically charged climate we live in. Most are undereducated, which doesn't help.

If you've dealt with the driver before then you can stop him if you know he has warrants or no DL. But sometimes just got to get them next time.

An honorable profession that has a lot more good apples than bad. Unfortunately the bad ones are the ones that get all the press.

They have assholes and they have good. More often than not they're good.

Sometimes the good even get caught on bad days. They put up with a lot of trash and sometimes it gets the best of them.

The bad cops. I hate them more than most things.

Undependable, abusive, have no real authority. All they do is investigate after the fact.

Good and bad ones just like any other profession. All of the ones I know personally, except one, are great guys. Some of the ones I've dealt with were great and others were jackarses. Have had both good and bad experiences with cops in cities and little towns.
