What do you pay for dry cleaning and where do you live?

I just picked up 6 items and it was $30 in Lafayette.

3 dry cleaned (one suit, one pair of pants) for $18
3 shirts laundered for $12

It seems like prices have really jumped over the last 5-10 years to average $5/item.

How does this compare to your area?

I live in Dallas and the pricing varies depending on what you drop off. I've had $50 bills for dropping off 8 or 9 items. I've stopped using dry cleaning services unless it's my suits for an interview.

I thought $4/shirt was a little steep.

That $30-$50/week adds up as much as I travel.

I found a chinese lady that does mine. I do not like her dry cleaning, but her laundred shirts are solid and cheaper than the chains. Only downside is it takes her a week.

Look for people who do laundry for a living. They will often do shirts. the shirts arent getting dry cleaned, so they don't really need anything but pressing.

same here...I just got tired of having to constantly find time to drop off and pick that shite up...couple that with the constant bills and price increases and I find it to be a lot easier to just do my own shite.

I live in the lower garden district. I tried to go to a few places in the area to see if I'd get a discount for shirts since I bring in 15-20 at a time. After spending $60 bucks a week, I decided to take my shirts on the westbank. Only pay $20-$30 bucks now for 12-15 shirts. Worth the drive in my opinion. One of the shops on St. Charles charged my GF $187 for 6 pieces one time. That was the last straw.

When I wore a suit everyday to work back in the 90's, I would also make the drive over.

About this time of year 9-10 years ago the Kean's employee asked me if I needed to get a year end summary of our dry cleaning expenses for tax purposes. I told her no need to since our dry cleaning isn't deductible since its normal dress clothes and not a uniform.

She then went on to say that we were their largest Client at that location. It was Jones Creek. I said well I guess a summary receipt maybe a good idea. I forget the amount, but it was over $3800-$4,000 for the year. We switched to a cheaper provider a few months later.

That was two of us. We both wear dress clothes everyday and even had polo style shirts and everything else dry cleaned. Those were the good oledays before catholic high tuition and kid's car insurance. We never even knew how much we were spending in cleaning with their auto pay.
