Upper Middle class in my mind is at least 120k* gross earnings and at least 300k* net worth

That's just average for around here. I live in Fairfax County but it's right there with Loudoun.

The nation’s richest county used to be a sleepy rural farmland with some 300 dairy farms, but now only one dairy remains. It has benefitted from its close proximity to Washington D.C. and the boom in federal government spending.

250k salary I'd say.

That would put you in the top 2% of all US households

I guess it depends on your definition of Rich or Upper class.

Some rich people make 250k per year but have money, some middle class folks make 250k a year but dont nearly have the money.

I'd consider the true upper class less than 1% of the population

Considering US median household income is ~50k, I would say somewhere around 100k and upper class would be anywhere above 250k.

So, what do you call the income that falls between 100k and 250k?

IMO middle class is from 75k or so to 250k. If you make over 250k you're probably considered upper class. from 150k to 250k upper middle class. 75k to 150k middle class.

Some of us graduated and the 'dreams' became a reality. So we're now considered upper middle class in our 20s and don't see ourselves as such.

So upper middle class ends at the 98th percentile of income?

It certainly doesn't begin there.

That is relative to where you live. 250k in Miami is pretty normal

No it's not, the median household income is around 45k

Dade county is very big. Median Income of the city I grew up in was $125k and it had 70k residents. It is an average suburb in the area as well.

You said Miami. Not some random suburb.

I make a good bit more than that and I'm single, it's definitely enough to do pretty much whatever I want.

Throw some chirren in the mix, I'd be fricked.

My point was that someone was saying $250k as upper middle class. That number IMO is high and by a good bit. The median household income in the country's richest county in $117000 so saying a $250k salary defines "upper middle class" is a bit absurd.

I know that feel. I don't feel upper middle class at all, but apparently to some people in this thread I am.

It wouldn't be JUST the 98th percentile. It would be a range, no?

of course you don't because people don't compare themselves to people that have less than them
