They suck.

Cremate yourself and have a nice big pic of how everybody knew you to be.
Closed casket if burning isn't your thing.

I don't see the point. We've all seen them many times in a much better state (alive), so why do we want to see them in their final unenviable condition (dead)?

To quote Don Draper: "It's your life- you don't know how long its gonna be, but you know it's gonna have a bad ending."

Helps to bring closure/acceptance for the healing process.

Surely there's a reason.

I used to be this way, but my GF has lost both her parents. Her mother wished to be cremated, with no service, and they followed her request. Her father had a traditional funeral with military honors (he was a retired Navy Captain). She said the traditional ceremony was a great comfort. So she's changed my mind. The funeral is about the survivors and what it does for them.

Funeral Homes love open caskets so that they can sell embalming services.

I wish it were legal to dump a body in the nearest secluded area. I hate the thought of my family spending a nickel on my dead husk.

I've thought the opposite. Cremation seems much easier on the family

You can still do the military funeral without an open casket

Spending money to put people underneath the ground where you can never see them again in some of the most desirable real estate in makes zero sense, so what does it even matter of it is closed or not?

Asking why was a pretty reasonable question.

Sorry it is hard for you to come up with your reasoning

Never been to a closed casket funeral. I was 4 when I went to my first funeral. My grandfather passed away. I dont see the big deal. My kids are young and my grandmother is soon going to pass away, and they will both be there. My son is 2 and wont have a clue. He will forget. My daughter is 5. She will have a million questions and they will all get answered. She cant learn if she doesnt see or ask.
