I usually think, " man I'm glad that's not me in there".

someone laid out in a casket is certainly not a pleasant thing to see, but they are necessary. the point of a funeral is not to have a big party, but to accept the fact that a person has passed away. seeing the body moves people to acceptance and closure a lot faster than a closed casket, IMO.

If I had children, I would not let them see an open casket, no.
No particular age, I guess it would be a judgement call on their maturity level and who the deceased was in relation to my children.

Im personally fine with or without an open casket. It is a bit strange though and the visual sticks with me, thats for sure.

I'm not a big fan. The person you knew is gone. I don't need to see the corpse to understand that.

I grew up not having a problem seeing the body until my brother's funeral. Some things are better left unseen.

I had a crazy Great Aunt that got in the casket with her husband at his funeral. He died at the supper table and she kept the meal he was eating in the freezer until she passed on. I was 10 years old or so when that occurred and turned out ok.

I'd rather a big party where I'm brought bar to bar

Because they are my children, and that is my preference on the matter. I dont need any other reason than that. Like I said, it would depend on the circumstances, but generally speaking, no I dont want my 8 year old checking out an open casket.
