G-Shock is hard to beat. I got my new GA1000-8A today and is the shintz.

I tried on one a few years ago.

First immediate impression I had was the size of the watch. The face of the watch was unfeasibly big and thick. I had Breitling watches that have a big face, but the Suunto was just cumbersome for everyday wear. I had the take the watch off to put on/takeoff a shirt or jacket.

Second, the instrumentation especially the altimeter on the watch was not nearly as accurate as a handheld unit. Maybe they have improved the watch since, but for me, I didn't like the size.

I love mine. But i prefer a digital to an analog which I know will make most cringe.

I have the Yachtsman which is the predesscor to the X-Lander. Highly recommended. When the strap gives out go with whatever are the straps broke recommends. The name escapes me right now but you won't be disappointed.
