Six Sigma Certification
Something operators get at my plant make them think they are engineers.

I work in a local hospital. This shite has been crammed up our arse. Waste of time!

but when I worked for CAT, they tried to get me to go to HQ and get training for it.
That's who I work for.
I got my 6 Sigma certification when I worked for CAT(LACAT)... we have probably have crossed paths.
The certification is good for understanding process improvement and ways to eliminate waste ($$). I'm in consulting now, and every client I've worked with has some sort of process improvement initiative going on. Having the Certification is an asset on the resume, no doubt, but its almost a requirement to have at least a couple projects completed with substantial cost savings for it to carry any weight these days.

For me, all it did was create more documentation for the shite I was already doing.
This is not the goal of Six Sigma at all. I just went through Lean GB SS certification and nowhere did we discuss having to document everything.
Six Sigma accompanied with a good RCA class can be really helpful in any industry.

Because it isn't being properly applied or utilized.

We're in the same boat.
GE pioneered it. They no longer use it.

I love how the same people that always complain bc everything is screwed up and nothing works right are the same ones that complain when the company makes an attempt to fix things.

6 sigma is the definition of waste in most of the ways I've seen it applied.

is the knowledge you get by completing the courses still beneficial in making you better/more efficient in whatever position you are in?
Hasn't helped me in the slightest. My company requires all employees at my level and above get certified. Huge waste of money, IMO

FYI green belt/yellow belt carry little credibility in my experience. You have to have a black belt or higher and have a project completed with significant savings before it can be a resume builder.

Yep.
It's been so bastardized by so many companies that you seriously have to check if someone's projects were done on things like which side of the toilet do you hang the shite tickets on.
