Might be moving there by end of year.

Fiancé (no pics) got a job with BOA and they are asking us to relocate.

I'm 29 she is 27

I'm from La she is from Ga so we literally know nothing about Charlotte.

What areas would you recommend for us to look into to buy a house?

Suburbs are great and lots of very affordable options. Most of the people we know that live out there live in Concord, Huntersville, or near Lake Norman.

There’s lots to do in the surrounding areas and it’s in a great location for many day trips

Rent for six months before buying. At your age, look at South End. NODA, if you like the more hippy/granola vibe. Once you get married and have a kid in school, then buy a house in Ballantyne, Marvin, Huntersville, if you want to live in the suburbs with good schools. The town of Belmont has a nice little downtown, and would probably be cheaper than the previously mentioned suburbs (and closer to the airport if she travels a lot.

Are you looking for walking distance to bars and restaurants, or bigger yards/suburbia?

Is she working uptown (what they call their downtown) or elsewhere?

Named after the wife of King George III, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818).

She had 15 children, 13 of which survived into adulthood.

Two of her sons would serve as Kings of Great Britain, another would be the father of Queen Victoria.

She's working for BoA so I guess that's uptown. I'll be working remote.

Ideally we'd like to be near bars and walking distance to places.

I was looking at the suburbs Matthews looks nice.

Matthews isn’t bad, but make sure you check the school districts if planning on staying there for possible kids. Newly married, I would probably rent something in Southend, Dilworth, NODA, or off Sewlyn road or Park Road near the Park Road Shopping center.

THIS is the correct answer. Rent a cool little place for your first year or two and enjoy the city. There are some great restaurants and bars in those walking distance neighborhoods to enjoy along with a shite load of lofts, duplexes and condos.

There will be plenty of time for y’all to do the suburbs with a yard thing after 30.

Agree with those above, rent first so you can see where you fit best. Once you buy, then much harder to move.

If your wife works uptown, DO NOT move to Lake Norman, she will hate you because of that commute.

100%

Why ppl are in a rush to buy astounds me.

Get situated.

See what traffic is like.
Where you like to go.

Then, if you wanna buy you can make an informed decision.

My son lives in Ft. Mill, SC. Both he and his wife work in Charlotte and love it there.

Rent first in SouthEnd for a year, then decide.

At some point, normal traffic will return and your wife will be hating life if she commutes from SC or Ballantyne or the Lake Norman area.

Look at a map, drawn a line south on Park Rd, a line south on Independence and research all the areas in this wedge. Plenty of great areas before you hit pineville-Matthews rd or I485.

That’s good advice, even SouthPark is becoming a decent option for renters. They are trying hard to make it more walkable and inviting, though the pandemic has slowed the influx of new bars/restaurants.

What do you want to know?

Like someone mentioned earlier you should probably rent in Dilworth for a year or two then look at buy. The real estate market here is pretty bad.

It's a clean downtown area that was fun to go to for a Saints game. Thats all I've got.

Just from a simple search earlier this week it doesn't appear to be as bad as Atlanta. Which is pretty terrible
