Almost 100% positive I'm developing one of these motherfrickers. Right on my tailbone and hurts to sit down the majority of the time. I think I've caught this in an early enough stage that it shouldn't require surgery but I'm pretty much clueless on the topic. Is this something that can be fixed with antibiotics or is surgery the only alternative for a long-term fix?

The surgery pics look straight out of a horror flick and I wouldn't wish this on anyone. What a pain in the arse

Literally a pain in the arse, I had one about five years ago... Had to have surgery to get it removed( only way to remove them). Took about 2 months to fully recover. They had to leave to wound open, and I had to pack it with gauze 2-3 times a day. I still have a scar.

God bless you. Just had my second surgery in March-hopefully they got it. Took 8 weeks to fully heal. I had a dermatologist give me injections about once every 2 months that helped, but the pain always came back worse. I'd go to a dermatologist or surgeon asap so it doesn't get bigger, I.e, longer recovery. Some insurance companies will pay for home health to change the bandages if you can't get help (my wife almost passed out), so keep that in mind.

Eta: if the surgery is needed, go ahead and buy/order a bunch of supplies for changing the bandages so you will have them at home. You'll find that anything but what you're used to will drive you crazy. So develop a system and stick with it

The sooner you get to the doc the better. This is normally an open would healing situation.

Takes a while to heal depending on the stage of the cyst. More disgusting than pain

It's bad but not THAT bad. They should give you ample pain meds. The worst part is trying to get comfortable

1. DO NOT just have it drained. It will come back. Surgically removing it is the only way to make sure it doesn't return.
2. Local anaesthetic doesn't work. It hurts like a MFER when they remove it.
3. Have someone take you to and from the hospital. You aren't gonna feel like driving.
4. Post op sucks. They have to leave the wound open to drain ensuring it doesn't come back.

I wouldn't wish one of those on anybody. Easily the most painful experience of my life. I had to ask the doc to stop because I thought I was gonna throw up during the procedure. If I had to do it again tomorrow, I get them to fully sedate me.

Most intense pain I've ever had to deal with. Turned out to be a nice three week break from work. My post surgery experience wasn't that bad.

They didn't explain what they were doing at all. I drove myself to the hospital and I guess that's why I didn't get full sedation only local. I was told that local anaesthesia doesn't work on the infected tissue only the surrounding tissue (not sure if true). It was fricking AWFUL.

This is going to suck, huh? I just started a job where I'm at a desk sending emails and making calls 8-10 hours a day, so this could not have come at a more inopportune time. How long did you wait to get it checked out? Whatever I've got is extremely small but tender to the touch. It doesn't feel like a cyst but from what I've read and considering the location, this has got to be a PC

Dude, go now! Waiting will only make it worse. If your new job gives you any flak, frick them and go get another one. Seriously.

Had one that kept coming back and had it lanced every time. The last time seemed to do the trick they let it heal from the inside out and kept packing with gauze every 2 to 3 days. Hurt like a son of a bitch. Didn't do surgery and been cyst free for about 8 years now.

You need an appointment ASAP! I have had it twice, the first time they drained, second time they removed it. The pain will get worse as it grows. Also, bigger cyst = bigger open wound and longer recovery. Make an appointment with your Dr today if at all possible.

I'm setting up an appointment in the next hour. The job comment was made just to state that I sit on my arse for up to 50 hours a week and I don't know how I'll fare with a moon crater right above my shithole.

Get it taken care of as soon as possible. My brother had one and he waited and the surgery was worse than it should have been. His upper butt crack now looks something done by Dr. Frankenstein

They suck.

That's where mine was. I ignored it until I literally fainted in my bedroom.

Surgery was a two-parter. First one was to drain it. Second one was to scrape it out.

Then you have to go into the doctor every week and have him shave your arse.

So yeah. Don't use the "let's just see if it goes away" tactic like I did.

At least there's a perk in this otherwise shite scenario

Same thing here when I had my first one. Was about 15 or so. Doc just started cutting in and kept going deeper and deeper and deeper. That was awful.

Got 2 more after that until they finally did the surgery to remove the "sack" or whatever they call the root of all this evil. Haven't had one since
