$40 voucher as a courtesy.

whoopie

I guarantee you 75% of people don't use that if it's an airfare voucher. Guarantees them more flights

Not to mention it probably expires within a year.

Delta gave a lady $1300 to take my last flight the other day. She only had to sit in the airport for 4 hours.

I wish I had taken an earlier flight that day

In the past 3 years I have flown:

Southwest - Dallas to Las Vegas, Dallas to Austin, Dallas to Houston, Houston to Dallas

US Airways - Dallas to Phoenix, Phoenix to Anchorage

Frontier - Denver to Dallas

Delta - Anchorage to Minneapolis, Minneapolis to Dallas, Las Vegas to Memphis, Detroit to Philadelphia, Philadelphia to Minneapolis

American - Chicago to DFW, DFW to Chicago

United - Des Moines to Denver, Denver to Salt Lake City, Denver to Dallas

And have not had a problem with any of them.

as a business traveler, I chose Southwest whenever I could. Great point system and I've only been delayed once (weather out of New York)

Spirit Airlines by far

Tried to save some money going to Mexico with my wife and spent more getting nickeled and dimed for everything. Uncomfortable and rude employees. Plus the terminal in Ft. Lauderdale for Spirit feels like your in Honduras or something. It is worth the $600 extra to fly with United or Delta without a doubt.

I don't understand the love affair many have with southwest. 15 years ago it was great, but now they tend to cost more than other airlines. Would rather pay less andhave a reseved seat.

this obviously depends where you are flying out of.

Cheap, companion pass, and rarely late. They also have great customer service and let me cancel and change flights without fees

I like connecting in Dallas vs. Atlanta or Houston, but I've had the following delays on American (all in/out of Baton Rouge):

Agreed. Prefer DFW to ATL and IAH. Also prefer MSY to BTR.

1) I had an AA flight push back from the gate at BTR, taxi to the end of the runway, and then get called back to the gate. Captain had no idea why, just that he had been ordered to come back. When we got there, BRPD was waiting. They boarded and promptly hauled off a ~20 year-old black male. Apparently he had a warrant out. Still made my connection.

2) Had a UA flight delayed over an hour because it was the Friday after Thanksgiving and the ground crew was late/no-show so the plane couldn't get fuel.

3) Had the AA gate agent buy me a ticket on UA so that I could actually get to my destination that day. The AA flight was so delayed that it must have been cheaper than paying me off with vouchers (not an option since I needed to be there).

I have more BTR delay stories, but I've tried to forget them. I'm pretty sure the ground ops are contracted out to ExpressJet, so the difference in airlines from BTR is meh. It's all regional jets. (Actually, I've seen DL with an A318 there but I don't know the frequency.)

TL;DR

Spirit is the worst.
Without status (OT poors), Southwest is the best.
With status, the domestic legacies are all about the same.

Oh, and the one time I flew Alaska was nice.

Ya I have never even flown it but I have some friends that have, they have a hub in AZ, and all I have heard are horror stories.

Yeah, both ticketing and the terminal in Lauderdale for spirit is a madhouse and zoo.

The no reserved seat cattle call bullshite is the reason I dislike Southwest.

I am primarily a business traveler. I don't have fricking time to be the first person to log into the check in the day before to get a good "boarding group".

I just want an assigned seat so I can hang out in the terminal until all the disgusting slobs I'm flying with have fought their way onboard and elbowed each other to get space for their huge bags in the overhead and then saunter in last and take my seat.

Southwest used to be cheaper, nicer to you, and have assigned seats. Now they're just nicer to you. Since my company is picking up the tab, it really doesn't matter to me if they're still cheaper, but they're not. So my one criteria is not having cattle call boarding procedures, which they do.

I have no problem making this same fly coming from Fort Worth. By the time you get parked and battle the mayhem that is DFW you are almost better off flying out of Love.
