I don't believe in cell phones. They're ruining the country.

This is ridiculous. I didn't have a phone till I was 15 or 16. And its not because the folks were strict. I just had no desire for one. Social skills are flying out the window at an alarming rate.

Case in point. I'm in my room working on some things for school before I go out tonight. My rooommate right now is playing 'zombies' on COD. He is constantly trying to lose weight through supplements he buys online. Is not consistent with the gym. He sits on his phone for HOURS at a time. Its not even just kids anymore.
eta: he is almost 30

The fact that he has a roommate at almost 30 might be his bigger concern.

10-11. Didn't get mine 'til I was a sophomore in highschool, 16 years old.

I'm actually trying to move out right now.

Got mine when I got my drivers license. 16 years old. I don't see why you would need one before then. I'm not close to having kids yet, and I know when I do I'll want to make my kids wait until that age as well, but I know it'll be harder to make them wait that long when the time comes around.

You didn't have Facebook, snap hat, texting, and all that other crap on your phone either.

Texting was around brah. As far as that other shite Really not on top of my priority lists. I still had a flip phone until the iphone 5 came out.

I got my first cell phone fall of 8th grade. I was a manager for the varsity basketball team and needed a way to call to get picked up when we got back to the school after away games.
My kids won't have one before then. Their sexting can wait until they have something to show.

Mine was 8 but she did not put it to real use until she was 10 - when near all of her friends had them. Soni would generally say 10 - 5th grade. She is ending 5th grade now and they are all on instagram, text, and face time.

About to give one to my 10 year old, he won't be going to aftercare next school year and we don't have a house phone anymore, it'll be strictly to call us and will be monitored.
It's just the times we live in now

Got my first one at age 22. I'm 32 now.
Personally I don't think kids need a cell phone until they start driving. And sure as hell don't need a smartphone.
