Surprisingly not at all. This wasn't a case of finding out you're having quads at 30 weeks. This seems like the original ultrasound early in the development.

Clomid/IUI
Im taking IVF completely off the table as an option. I realize it's a wonderful option for others though and certainly do not judge anyone else that does IVF. I just don't feel it's for me personally.
The whole multiples risk is a concern though. Our doctor said to look at it like a "buy one get one free" type of thing. BOGO for babies

Article said the ER visit where she found out she was pregnant with quads was on April 4 and the babies were born on September 16. Assuming they were born prematurely, she was probably only a few months pregnant when she found out.

I'm still under 40. I think I'll trust the fertility opinions to the doctors caring for me (one of which had a completely healthy baby when she was my age) than some guy on a message board who clearly doesn't know what the hell he's taking about.

Probably 10 or so weeks pregnant. Unlikely that she was even showing.

Totally understand! I can't imagine IVF as an option for myself, either. I know many who've had success with it, but it's so expensive and invasive.
Telling anyone to "just adopt" is so asinine. Adoption is expensive & emotionally exhaustive, with no guarantees. It's up there with telling a couple to "just relax, and it'll happen".

Friend of mine was taking clomid for a long time and had zero luck. She gave up, was off meds for over a year and decided to start pursuing IVF.
The first visit with her new doctor and after an exam and doing an interview he asked why she was there?
Turns out she was a little over 2.5 months pregant. With triplets.
Her poor husband is 31 and has a 44 year old wife with two identical five year old girls in the house and one five year old boy.
Those two guys catch hell.

I'm in no way discouraging adoption. I'm discouraging it being tossed out as advice to people having fertility problems as the easier/obvious solution. Like they haven't ever considered it. It's dismissive and not that simple.

I was a million times more terrified right before the reveal of the sex of my twins than I was when I found out I was having twins.
The ultrasound tech first said they both had the same sex before she said which sex. In that moment, If I was given the choice to find out which sex or magically just split the difference and do 1 each, I probably woulda gone the 1 each route
As it turned out, 2 boys!!!!

Average adoption costs 20-50k, that the couple has to pay for themselves.
Clomid/IUI is mostly covered by my insurance and not crazy invasive, why not try it first?
I have a friend that just adopted, it's a very emotionally draining process. The interview process is very intense. If you have ANY black marks in your past....they will bring it up and try to use it against you as a reason why you shouldn't adopt. Her husband foreclosed on his house during 2008 and the housing disaster here in PHX.....they kept throwing that in his face as well. Luckily they were able to still adopt but she said it's certainly not the "easiest" option as many try to make it to be. And....there is always the risk that it falls through if one of the bio parents changes their mind. And it's not like you get a refund when that happens.

IVF and other fertility treatments are expensive too, and they aren't guaranteed either, but it is asinine to act like adoption is much better.
I think adoption is a fantastic route, but I would never fault someone for exploring other avenues, particularly because adoption is also a route for parents who don't need IVF or other treatments and just want another child. We would never fault someone who choses to have a traditional pregnancy instead of adoption, so I don't think we should treat IVF any differently.

Wow, had no idea it was that much. I've never had kids, had a gf who lost the pregnancy 2 years ago, so I have no idea how that compares to the actual medical cost of a childbirth. Or out of pocket things a good insurance may not cover etc.

It's a lot of money to come up with for sure. At least going the fertility treatment/IVF route, some people are lucky enough to have insurance cover a portion of the cost. Both are expensive and time consuming, so really can't blame a couple for whatever decision they make.
