Well what do you fricking know? CAD's prediction about Amazon was right.

i said i'd ban myself after blasting amazon for the rampant false/fake 5 star "best seller" reviews that have made amazon ratings a joke if they didn't get this shite under control and all I heard was "CAD IS STUPID" "CAD HATES AMAZON".
i even said these things are being bought and sold and farms of indians are cranking out thousands of 'postivie' reviews to push things to the top of the various categories (see bed sheets and that infamous $49 shite router, etc.)

I thought this was common knowledge?
I must have missed that thread. Its all about who the review comes from IMO. Can't just look at star rating, that's just a generally good starting point for product research, but hardly an end-all.
I ordered a cheap HDMI cord a few years ago and it came with a piece of paper that said if I gave them a 5 star rating I’d get another HDMI cord for free. I did it and they sent me another one.
But it actually deserved the 5 star rating because it was dirt cheap like it’s supposed to be and worked great.

Yeah, I pretty much assume every negative review of anything on the interwebs was written by the competition. I do think with certain products, though, you can get a sense of what are legitimate complaints when you see recurring themes.

Of course a lot of the reviews are fake but big deal, there are also a lot of real ones on most listings. Amazon may not be the best place to do research on a product but it is the best place to get the lowest price and lowest shipping costs for almost any product.

everyone completely missed the point of my original post and knee-jerked 'cad hates amazon'.
i was pointing out how you could select just about any category at amazon and look for the '#1 bestseller' badge amazon brands it with and it was a mediocre product at best.
of course that was way too complicated for the average OTer to understand.
