I'm not really sure what defines trashy, but it's like pornography, "you know it when you see it".

I see old pics from the depression and was thinking that those people were just poor, they weren't trashy. A homeless guy is poor, but he isn't neccessarily trashy.

I'm wondering what it's like in other cultures, is it the same here, the poor have to be gaudy?

Yes. In every culture you have trashy people.

And yes, some will be poor.

Trashy and poor people are vital.

I enjoy people watching and without them, my hobby would cease to exist.

im young and therefore pretty clueless about these things, but I have to imagine poor Americans are much, much trashier than they were 50+ years ago.

Overgeneralization... Yes

Trashy poor everywhere, need a $500 phone and the drink, but won't send their kids to school

But in my experience, occurs less often in more rural, less developed areas

ETA: my experience is Asia. Saw a few people described above, but saw ten fold more just trying to survive

I usually drop the blinds down in the Maybach when I'm bumping around in foreign lands...

Pornography is pretty easy to spot, brah. That analogy sounds like it'd come from a middle-aged church lady.

Being poor and trashy was not celebrated decades ago, people were embarrassed about low social status. Society is telling those same people to celebrate their stupidity and bad decisions nowadays.

It's rewarded via social media.

Trashy doesn't always bother me. What really stands out to me is when someone comes from little money and makes it in life financially.

That sudden exposure to wealth leads to some of the most awful fashion and life style choices

as others have mentioned, it was an arugument about what makes a nude in a masterpiece painting not porn, while a nude in a "Brazzers" picture..."porn".

Anyway....

I think trash is all things gaudy in our culture, but others would probably disagree.

Doesn't bother me too much either. When you get tired of it though, it's very hard to get away from toda.

In my experience, poor doesn't equal trashy. Some of the trashiest have money
