What the hell does this even mean? I have 2 friends expecting and when I stated I didn't even know they were trying, this was the response.

So you stopped taking birth control, I get that.

If you're pulling out, you're using some form of BC, and effectively not trying to get pregnant.

If you're not pulling out, you're trying to get pregnant.

I do not understand this expression.

Well thanks.

I thought it was pretty cut and dry. You're trying or you aren't.

It means that they were having sex and okay with getting pregnant, but weren't specifically trying to time their coitus for optimal fertilization.

It's pretty self explanatory.

They were just letting nature take it's course.

no

trying to get pregnant means your SO is watching her calender and whatnot and you go home to hit it at 2 pm on a weekday because its "time"

It's a reply just to make people shut up..like saying it is what it is..with us having so many, we get questions like was this a surprise, did y'all mean to...we weren't watching her ovulation trying to plan out the exact time just to get pregnant..we was having sex all the time and wasn't preventing..if we got pregnant, we got pregnant..if not, oh well..

Not necessarily but you're willing to accept it if it happens. For most people "trying to get pregnant" means charting cycles and all that. Not trying and not using bc is just having sex whenever.

I guess we're lucky then. Wife didn't have to pay attention to when she ovulated and what not.

May want to ask your friends. They know the only true answer to the question. I assume it has to do with fertilization period....

So you asked a personal question about their sex life and weren't satisfied with the response?

Some do. Some don't.

Glad we could teach you something.

Yeah I think I've got it, just think it's an incorrect way of saying, "Yes, we were trying to get pregnant."

when someone says "trying to get pregnant", I think they are actively trying, as in monitoring ovulation cycles and whatnot

when they say "we are not preventing", I take that as passively trying to get pregnant

one means the couple wants to get pregnant ASAP and the other means they don't care if it happens this week or a year from now

If you guys were actively trying and the pregnancy wasn't an "oops" after a drunken night.....she was paying some attention to her cycle. Now whether she told you or not is another story.
