But, digital is where it is nowadays.

Digital is great if you love compression and overall inferior picture quality.

This. I always hear folks saying bluray is dead, but streaming cannot touch bluray quality, in terms of video or audio.

I prefer older movies. 95% of the ones they make today are either duplicate ideas or remakes. For this reason alone, I think blueray is more than sufficient for my collection.

The twice a year they make a new movie that is worth seeing, I will wait til it comes out on blueray/digital and buy it cheaper than it would cost for 2 to see it at the theater.

This may not be the thread for this discussion, but I'm not sure if I agree with your point. There are different levels of severity, but they're both against the law.

I'm not a holier than thou kind of guy and I won't deny using torrents and what not to view movies I didn't buy, but I'm not going to act like it isn't against the law.

I don't watch the same movies over and over again to justify buying them. I either Netflix, Redbox, or Amazon prime my movies.

It's too bad there isn't a format for movies that's comparable to vinyl for music.

for years the MPAA and RIAA have lobbied for bizarre regulations and laws to 'protect the artists' when its all been a huge money grab.

turn about is fair play. they can't control the interwebz in china and russia so frick them, they have to change their ways and stop fricking the consumers and if they drag their feet, Star Wars will still sell for $2 on DVD-Rs on the streets of Hong Kong and show up in millions of torrent downloads.

ha ha

the result is $10/mo unlimited music services from google, spotify & apple and $10/mo unlimited movies from amazon & netflix.

change is good

99% of the world wants pretty good, but doesn't need top of the line, picture to watch a movie.

You techophiles are going to be gouged from here moving forward trying to get the best format.

But what if I get Google fiber?

ETA: Let me put it this way. Blueray is not mainstream. Nothing that isn't cloud based/streamed will ever be mainstreamed again.

Why do you think BlueRays cost more than state of the art formats of the past? Because you're not getting subsidized by rank-and-file movie viewers.

careful, here in nashville many many neighborhoods in nashville aren't getting it..they're focusing on the downtown/urban/easy build-out.

Suburbs..not so much.

I like having physical copies of the thi vs I like. Already had a huge DVD library, every once in a while I'll pick up something (usually nostalgic or collectable) from a store like Hastings.

Neither of those have a good selection. Yeah I like prime for TV shows, but not movies.

I go w/ DVDs because I really like special features. And I sometimes like what they put in the casing, too.

DVDs FTW!
