regular DVD
Bluray
3D
4k

I reluctantly jumped on the bluray train years ago but now they are releasing 4k films that are of course more pricey.

The trick is just make a digital media library.

Or subscribe to one.

I used to be all about physical media, and still am on special things I want to have no matter the internet connection.

But, digital is where it is nowadays.

You could just buy a huge hard drive and a simple computer and use your TV as your monitor and the hard drive as your media storage!

If I didn't have an xbox I wouldn't have any of those. I stream everything.

Don't worry about it - just pick one that is sufficient for your needs and go with it.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I struggle to see a situation where someone is going to point at your Blu-Ray collection and laugh at the quality of the picture/sound. It may not be the best, but it is certainly good enough for a long time.
