So my well pump was submerged under water for a few days.(Luckily I threw the breaker to it before evacuating). Turned breaker on today and it immediately starts pumping.

Now wife doesn't want to move home because she thinks water is contaminated somehow. I said it's highly unlikely since everything is glued pvc and the source is 400' down. Anybody with any experience in this know if it's possible my water source is contaminated?

It's going to be okay to drink.

Hospitals test their water a couple times a day. If you know someone that is a lab tech, they should be able to give your wife peace of mind.

I doubt it's contaminated as surface water doesn't get down to the aquifer. I doubt it's 400 feet down either.

Yeah man.. I'm built up to 8' in elevation and had 5' deep water in my yard and in my shop. (where my well pump and tank is). Got pretty damn lucky

How about you?

It's fairly cheap and easy to get the water tested nowadays, if you want to have a verified answer. Or you could always test it yourself by just drinking it for a day and if you don't get sick then I'd say its good. The water the well is pulling should be clean though, there may bet a bit of contamination that seeped through the casing at the top, but flushing a little should clear that out.

Well, here's the deal. If it's glued pvc as you say, it is a closed system. Typically house wells have a cap that closes it off to not allow any contaminants in (rat feces and the like). Plus, I haven't seen a house well that doesn't run through a fairly extensive filter system before getting to the house. Especially in a 400' well. While that sounds deep, it really isn't. Chances are high that it will be very high in iron, and need the filter system. Is it a jet well?

I had a 600' well that flooded during Ike. It pumped salt water for a day and a half then funky marsh water for another day and a half. It finally started pumping fresh water and I took a sample to the parish health unit where it tested OK. Good luck, hope this helps

I believe the pump is a deep well jet pump but I'm not sure

Ok but again, it matters how your intake is run into your casing. If it is closed, it will be fine. I have both. Neither are for my home, but I have two wells on my property drilled by two different guys. One is totally sealed and wouldn't take water if it sat on it for a week, and the other is just a 30' section of PVC dropped into a casing with a suction pump for a small pond. The casing is open on that one and will allow trash to get in.

My system is sealed, just might get a sample for peace of mind.

Does anyone know of place that does analysis that isn't a 2 week turnaround?

I have used a place off barringer foreman that was next day results, but they don't appear to be open anymore.
