Water Heater - Where to Buy??

I think I will need to replace water heater soon, 50 gal gas it it matters. When I lived in South Florida, we had a few plumbing supply companies that would sell to the public. It was cheaper than going to Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
Any places like that around the New Orleans or Northshore area? Any other recommendations on where to buy?
TIA

Do yourself a favor and get a tankless water heater

Considering, I had two in a previous house I built.

I worry less about up front cost than long term saving from efficiency of the water heater.

Its going to be hard to find anyone that will beat Home Depot pricing. Ferguson may be the only company that can get close, but Home Depot is buying at such high quantities that they control the market. If you have the option you should definitely consider installing the tankless unit. There may still be a tax credit for the tankless unit since it is considered energy efficient. Another thing to consider is the warranty. The manufacturer will not warranty a unit that is not installed per state plumbing code and some will not warranty if not installed by a licensed plumber.

Ideal Appliance
or
Appliance Parts Depot
ask for a cash account, and then you can get wholesale price.
The Home Depot near Jefferson Highway in Elmwood has three 50 gallon water heaters on scratch and dent sale right now.

overrated. they have their place but this deal with everyone saying everybody needs one is misguided.
A tank water heater is still a very affordable and effective system.
That said, I have a tankless and it serves me well for my instance.
