Was the allies winning WW 2 inevitable?

Been on a WW2 kick recently. And what's surprising me is just how circumspect the Axis appears. Italy is completely useless. One Japanese admiral said before Pearl Harbor that if Japan didn't win in the Pacific theater within a year, he knew the US would win and in the World at War I was watching two days ago, the generals were begging Hitler to reconsider fighting Russia because they weren't a pushover like everyone else they had fought so far.

In Europe at least, I don't think the Allies won WW2 as much as Nazi Germany lost it. Had Hitler left the military tactics to his generals and not gotten completely loaded on meth after '42, they'd probably be speaking German in Moscow and Paris right now. But that was the problem with the entire Nazi system. When you put the every aspect of a modern state under the sole control of one guy, it's destined to fail because humans are imperfect beings who inevitably make bad decisions. That is why the system of checks and balances is so important.

Zhukov and his push at the battle of kursk won the war. Had he failed there and the Germans pushed and took Moscow, the ruskies would bow out. Then all the experienced men on the eastern front would flood the western front.

Nazi problem was they tried to expand too fast and bit off more than they could chew

But US getting involved was always a foregone conclusion. FDR knew about Pearl Harbor and let it happen so we could get involved.

A lot of history books are wrong about WW2

A lot of what Germany did was in defense or in retaliation, they were rarely the aggressor

In hindsight, yes. Eventually we would develop the atomic bomb and probably dropped two or three on Germany.

We would have never dropped the atom bomb on Germany

The Pacific was an inevitable win for the US/loss for Japan.

The European War was much different. Germany subdued France and pushed the Royal Air Force to the brink of collapse. Hitler's decision to start bombing towns instead of the air fields in an act of revenge for an accidental British bombing proved to be the relief the Air Force needed to repair and reengage.

Italy was an albatross around Hilter's neck the whole war. All Italy did was screw up and make Hilter bail them out. Hitler has to divert troops into Greece to bail out Italy before they invaded the USSR then after the invasion Hilter diverted his troops south in the Ukraine which took up too much valuable time. Hitler diverted to Greece which pushed the start of the invasion back too late then once he invaded he wasted time in the Ukraine. If Germany gets to Moscow the war would have been quite different. Along with crushing the RAF and suing for peace.

Well, I don't exactly mean bowed out. But had the Germans not failed in operation citadel, then they would have had an open path to Moscow, not to mention have completely devastated FIVE Russian armies in the operation, an absolute critical blow to the russians. After stalin et al are dead... Who would continue the fight?

Fact is operation citadels failure was the last great push east. And the turning point in the war. It was the straw that broke the camels back.

The war would have been much longer and much more bloody with Russia knocked out and the bulk of hardened troops and their more modern equipment than we encountered on the western front.

Be thankful for the ruskies, if it weren't for their willingness to have every man woman and child killed, there would have been many times over the casualty numbers that we actually received.

We still would have won though. Atom bomb would make sure of that.

What if Hitler didn't declare war on the US?
Instead 12/8/41 declared that he supports the United States in their defense against the sneak attack by this Asian aggressor.

No way FDR has the votes to declare war on Germany/Italy. World War II would likely have been US/Australia vs Japan; Germany/Italy vs Britain/Russia.
Cold War would have been completely different.

No. Two major frick ups.

1) Hitler invaded Russia
2) Japan bombed Pearl Harbor

It's probable we'd still win in the Pacific, but no telling what would have happened if Hitler didn't invade Russia as early as he did and Japan didn't put us in the war.

Everyone would probably be dead in Moscow. Slavs were right below the Jews in his mind and he would have killed them all.
