Was it a daycare for urban yutes during the summer months?

Neither one was very good. It got a little better when 6 flags took over. It needed better roller coasters.

That’s why it was never going to survive long term. Small market parks don’t make much money and Jazzland cost a lot to build.

I’d read where they had to stop their “$10 before 10 AM” tickets because of “large fights that would spread through the park”.

It was actually very nice.. with a huge wooden coaster Zephyr that was like the Texas Cyclone and some other cool rides. The only prob was not enough trees for shade and of course that it was in NOLA East. Should've put in Kenner by the lake like Pontchatrain Beach.

Hell No! Pontchartrain Beach was the best!

As a kid I thought it was awesome, but it was the only amusement park I’d been to so guess that’s not saying much

Decent for a day off excursion, nothing to brag about though. I went a few times but wouldn't have ever thought of buying season passes because it was pretty small.

They rebranded one of the coasters along those lines and added a Batman ride that was pretty good.
This is what I remember.
Jazzland was cool just because it was a unique place in Louisiana, but it was pretty bland and underwhelming once you compared it to six flags in other states.
Six Flags only improved it a little bit. I'm sure by now it would have been pretty decent if it kept developing, but I think even without Katrina it would have been abandoned.

They had absolutely zero plan to generate excitement beyond opening season

Six Flags made money on the two (?) years it ran JL prior to Katrina. If not for the national Six Flags brand bleeding heavily at the time, they may have found it worthwhile to rehab the New Orleans property.

It had Batman. It was a good roller coaster. One where your suspended in seats under the track. They disassembled it after a Katrina and sold it to another park. The had the zydeco scream ( I think). Kind of basic but it was fun. You go through the track first in the forward position and there’s a loop and some turns. Then you do it in reverse. It was a fun place. The wooden roller coaster, the a mega Zephyr was decent. They had the small coaster that mutiple, two seat cars went around at once. The track was 3 stories tall and so you had people on the ride above and below you while you’re on. I think it was called the muskrat scrambler and it’s intent was the break your ribs with sharp turns. They had a couple water rides I think. I remember making a poor decision of watching on the viewing platform and getting sprayed but it was more like being submersed and not sprayed. They had one of those classic rides that was like 150 feet tall and would bring you to the top and drop you in a free fall. Then they had a tower that did the opposite and shot you upwards at high speed. I remember being jealous of the people doing the huge swing over the pond in the middle of the park. That shite looked fun. I’d say it was a good time. It was no Six Flags In Dallas or Universal Studios but it wasn’t some crappy carnival. I had a good time the few times I went.

I went when it first opened when I was 9. I just remember it being hot and my over protective mother wouldn't let me ride the roller coasters.

Both sucked. No shade. Seemingly 2-3 rides would be out of order. City culture made up 80% of the attendees. Cars would be burglarized while you were in.
