Hell with Ward's. I was too busy racking up on Girbaud and Z. Cavaricci rejects at Solo.

There used to be an electronics store by Lowe's at Cortana. Silo maybe? Now it's a church in the front and Friendly Yamaha uses the warehouse in the back. It's packed with crates of new bikes.
Chi-Chi's was my favorite restaurant as a kid.
New Generation was cool as shite. Hell, Cortana Mall was cool as shite.
I can remember going with mama grocery shopping at the REAL Supercenter. I used to think that place was 400,000 square feet.
There was some enormous hotel that seemed to take up a mile on Airline, not the Bellmont, across the street from it. Can't remember the name.
The only thing that S. Baton Rouge had was Jimmy Swaggart setup in the middle of nowhere, at the time.
The greatest thing and only reason to step foot on Florida now a days is Anthony's Deli. Once that fantastic, Italian, delicious sandwich making hidden jewel closes, you might as well barricade that dump.

You have been around BR a while, did you learn to fly there?

So basically we can pin the decline on Baton Rouge to........John Parker.

Well not sure if you are aware but Anthony's is building a new building on Govt Street just past Fleur De Lis and closing the Florida Blvd one shortly.

When I was a wee preteen laddie in the late '70s I thought Florida Blvd was fricking paradise
I bet there are people who once thought that way about downtown, long long ago

I remember when they built Skaggs Albertsons which was what it was called then. Plus they had a bar out by it that had nickel beer night. Bobby Meadors Catfish House. He had a fishing show.

I remember when Bon Marche Shopping Center opened, around 1960. It was the first shopping center in BR. There was nothing out that way, you drove forever to get there.
Hoppers Drive in was the best and the curly cue french fries were great!

Jams was the place to go - Mid 80's. Drink beer in parking lot of Silo. I remember one night these two dudes fought in the parking lot and there was over a 100 people gathered to watch. Kick arse fight.
