Preach! I'll gain an easy 5+ pounds due to DDP ..This past trip not having it I actually lost weight.. Guess not have a 4000 calorie dessert after each meal helped

On our honeymoon back in January 2006, that was our first time using the dining plan. Back then it was an app, entree and dessert per person for table service meals. Also included were the counter service meals and snacks just as they are today. We stayed in a honeymoon suite in the Widerness Lodge which is concierge level and gave us access to the concierge lounge. I'd wake up every morning and grab some juice and a muffin or pastry for breakfast. We'd use our quick service and snack credits (sometimes just on a bottle of water) daily, check out the concierge lounge at different points during to day to see what they had out (cookies, PB&J sammiches and even bison chili one day) and then hit up our table service meals.

We went to Ohana, Yachtsman Steakhouse and Tony's Town Square among others. On the last night, we had a reservation at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in the lobby of Wilderness Lodge. We were so stuffed from the rest of the trip that we each ate about half of our apps (cup of soup) and barely touched our entrees. The server totally dropped out of character to ask if something was wrong with our meals. We explained how stuffed we were and she asked if we wanted to take the meals back to the room. We declined because there was no way we were eating any more before leaving in the morning. We passed on dessert and then waddled back to our room.

When you think you're beating the mouse on one trip, they are already figuring out how to beat you on your next trip.

My approach is to just get a budget ahead of time...say $4000 for a week then we just figure out how we want to spend that $4k. I'm going to spend it one way or the other so I just need to make sure I spend it on the things I want the most. Not just spend it on more things.

At the end of the DDP week, it felt like we had every meal at Golden Corral... And looked it!

So it's a great deal if you regularly consume mass quantities of food & dessert and order the most expensive items on the menu.

But to eat sensibly, I think you save by paying cash for what you want and taking the room discounts.

I've seen people at Earl of Sandwich on a Saturday just order a ton of sandwiches for their ride home or grabbing like 15 cookies or rice crispy treats in a shop to use the rest of their snack credits. I, myself, have ordered 2 sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich before to make sure I used every last one of those damn credits

Link to DDP vs Cash (OOP) vs TiW Spreadsheet

First time I'm trying to share with google drive so sorry if it doesn't work.

Some notes on using it:

- Save (Save As) a new copy each time you use it. When you hit the button on the settings page, there's no going back. This way you won't lose the "clean" original.

- The restaurant list may not be up to date. I changed the DDP prices, but I didn't fully update the restaurant sheet. You can see the format if you need to add one (you may have to "unprotect" the sheet.

- This takes time. You don't just put in a few number and bam! You can guess and estimate, but you need to try and fill it out completely to get a good comparison. Go to WDWinfo or allears.net to find menus and prices.

Let me know if y'all have questions. I didn't build the sheet, but I've used it a few times now.

I pretty much starve myself for the two weeks prior so I go into it with a voracious appetite. What I found is alot of people didn't realize you could use your snack at Starbucks. Like I said earlier my wife was getting Venti caramel Fraps everyday with her snack.

Interesting. We found it to be severely overrated.
Did you go for lunch or dinner? I think lunch is very good for the price. Dinner? Not so much. Love the setting though.

I'll one up you....if you go during Food and Wine festival you can use snack credits at the food booths.

Lunch. Everything I read online and all of the podcasts I listen to really hyped it up. We didn't find the food to be any better than regular counter service for lunch.

Be Our Guest has mediocre food and service. Pluses are atmosphere and drinks.

Agree on the atmosphere....don't know about the drinks since we were there for lunch. We'll probably go again just because the girls will love the decor. But it won't be for the food. It sucks that their primary park is so poor when it comes to food offerings. I really want to have high hopes for the new Jungle Cruise themed restaurant they're working on. But I can' get my hopes up too high for the food quality.

It's poor compared to EPCOT. Everything is. But breakfast in Cinderella's castle or even at the Crystal Palace is tough to beat. Tusker House is up there. I've never done Norway though. Lunch is okay. Most places are meant to get you in and out although I like the sandwiches at the Plaza.

We really enjoyed the roast beef sandwich and the braised pork. For a CS restaurant, we thought it was very good for MK. We get sick of hamburgers and this was something a bit different for lunch.

All solid breakfast choices..

It's just as good as Crystal and Tusker.

That's been my families last sit down of the Vacation for the past 5 years.. Hard to beat that place..Price is right, shakes are good.. Good view of fireworks if you time dinner right.

I've done Crystal Palace for breakfast. It's fine. I wouldn't say it's anything spectacular. But you're going there for the characters IMO. There are restaurants in every park and most resorts that I would say are better than any of the restaurants in the Magic Kingdom.

The Plaza is pretty good though. We went there for the first time on our last trip in January 2014.

See, but I think that's where it gets some of the hype....just because it's something different. Don't get me wrong, the MK needs a variety of food choices, I just didn't find the food to live up to the hype. Was it bad? No, absolutely not. Will I make a trip there again just for the food at lunch? No.

But to me that is legitimate. There is not a lot of QS food at MK that can be described as great. Almost all of it is average and overpriced. So, different is good sometimes as eating the same old thing gets old. Outside of WDW, I would not think the food at BOG was fantastic, but given where we are, I think it is pretty good for QS.
