Higher wages and bonuses no enough

Could be Germans but it is a fitting story to the end of this work week considering all of the other things going on.

Basically they are mad because they are getting pay raises, better schedules, quarterly bonuses, discount on all items except for food. So they want discount on food.

Do you get a discount on food?

If I have to scan my own groceries and bag them while Laquitha and Bisquick are watching me I want a discount.

I thought Wal Mart employees already got like a 10% discount. Maybe it doesn't apply to groceries. Admittedly I didn't read the linked article because I'm as lazy as Laquitha, Bisquick, Lemonjello and Orangello (twins obviously).

My MIL and wife worked at Wal-Mart and they do get a discount. I think it's 10% but I'm not sure.

We get 10% off on most things. Just not meat, dairy, bakery, liquor, and tobacco items. And a lot of us there work our asses off.

Also, that whole deal about Walmart raising wages was a PR stunt. They only raised wages on new associates and those there under a year. They paid for that by slashing annual raises for the rest of us.

I'm sure a lot do work, the company wouldn't make it if they didn't but like any company there is a loud bunch that don't and want more. I really don't care one way or the other - it just seems in this day and age everyone wants to complain about something and protest. Many do not work their asses off and demand higher wages instead of starting at the bottom, like most people (myself included) learning, working hard and earning the top pay.

As I said above if I scan my own groceries or lumber (Home Depot, Lowes) and bag them while an employee stands by and watches me I feel I deserve a discount.

Oh well. I read things and pass along what I think someone might be interested in.

I just goes to show that these people can never be satisfied. Give them an inch and they take a mile.

That's what your movement wants. Equality. You asked for it and you got it.

Just keep in mind that at any given time there are 100 people working in a store and just 1 of them is manning the self check area. Freight has to be shipped, unloaded, stacked, stocked, rotated, culled, organized, and inventoried before you are able to even put it in your basket. Also there were only 13,000 that signed the petition out of 2.2 million employees.

But I'm just dwelling on these points. I do not support these employees making these demands. Nobody is forcing people to work there. You know a company's policy when you choose to work there. If you don't like it go work for somebody else. If it were up to me the federal minimum wage would be abolished.

I understand that and I read the article and am aware it was a very small number of people and I didn't mean to generalize.

My point on self checkout is I don't mind doing it but if I am giving up a service usually provided, and am aware I have the option, I should be offered a perk myself. 2% as an incentive to me which in turn might motivate Wal Mart or Home Depot to employ more self checkout because more people would use it.

I consider the option to use self checkout itself is a benefit. It usually allows me to check out much quicker than I would otherwise.

Solid. The unions act like this is some forced labor camp or something. In seeing/reading articles of this type, the fundamental concept of capitalism is omitted - this is a business that exists to make money and repay its shareholders, not for the altruistic concept of taking care of its employees.

Companies regularly survey the labor market to determine their level of competitiveness in salary, benefits, etc. Wal-Mart (and other companies) make changes to their benefits and compensation packages when they determine that not doing so puts them at a competing disadvantage.
