So I'm not going home for Thanksgiving this year... and no local plans...

Anyone know of any places to volunteer to maybe dole out food (dinner)/supplies in NOLA on Thanksgiving day/afternoon/evening?

TIA.

Maybe like one of those big brother/big sister places? I;ve always wanted to be one of those.

The deal with volunteering on Thanksgiving is that everyone wants to serve at a homeless shelter or those big thousand-person dinners. They end up with way more volunteers than they need and most just get in the way. The first year I did one at the BR River Center and there were more volunteers than people eating. It was super awkward. I usually had good luck with the local diocese needing help delivering meals. That was in BR when I would fly solo for thanksgiving, but I'm sure some local non-shelter places in Nola could use a hand or two.

You could also call up a retirement/old folks home and offer to just visit and sit with them. I know they love that.

Where are you volunteering for Acadien Day? If you don't wanna paint that guy's house, you could rake my yard.
