That's a ballsy move. However if you did that in Formula 1, it would be illegal (having all 4 wheels of the track when trying to gain a position). The driver would be forced to give the position back.
Watch this battle between Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen from the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix. Lewis went off track and was forced to let Kimi through again -- LINK

It was legal in CART at the time and the creativity and courage to go for that pass in a blind corkscrew is amazing.
