...to survive flood waters.

HOUSTON, TX (WVUE) -
People in Louisiana familiar flooding have probably seen this fearsome sight before … Fire ants crawling in a blob to stay alive.

A massive group of fire ants huddled together in the flood waters of Houston after devastating rain from Harvey.

That's what they do.

We used to throw crap at them back in the day.

Never really worked out very good for us.

My dog's bowl had a few ants in it the other day. Went to rinse it out and noticed the ants clinging like this. Kind of cool, really. Proceeded to drown them.

This happened to me during flooding here. At night as you sandbag you can't see them . I received a few dozen bites seemingly in ten seconds.

I heard that squirting them with dishwash liquid breaks the water tension and they sink. Just FYI.

Fire sounds more fun though.

I doubt they had any monkeys around to throw.

Yeah, if you have monkeys to throw things at, who needs ants.

Used to have a ditch that ran on the back property line of our house and after really heavy rain we'd see these. They'd be like the size of basketballs.

Insane.

I throw rocks at them and they break up then miraculously reform. Nature is really fricking cool.
