Prices vary depending on the clinic you go to. Being an emergency visit with multiple nights of overnight hospitalization, that price isn't abnormal. I would have estimated 1200-1500 with IV fluids, diagnostics, injectable medications. Plus like you stated then they have to recheck your values. If you want to see high, ask a human hospital what the exact same treatment would cost, probably 30-40k.
You can always ask to have them recheck values in 24 hours, some dogs will respond very quickly and others don't I usually send them home when they are eating and not vomiting.
You sound like someone who cares for their pet, not like a lot of the idiots who give you that crap about vets gouge clients blah blah blah. I treat my patients like I would treat your wife, kid, mother. Would you price shop your pediatricians to get the cheapest vaccines?

Emergency is crazy expensive. Screw the haters. Your baby deserves all you can do! Good luck!

This sounds like a good thread title
Are all Vets scumbags?

Vets aren't cheap. Just this week I received an estimate for a cleaning and tooth removal and it's over $500.00.
Which vets are these?? I've had the same services done on my animals for close to half of that price.
I saw the OP said Sherwood South. They do quote absolute worst case. My dog had a 4 day stay there not long ago and the price wasn't as bad as I expected it would be. This included 24 hour care and being allowed to call 24/7 for updates.

Is a vet considered a 'Doctor?'

The $1500 consists of visit (emergency), X-rays, blood work, pancreatic lipase, I/V, meds, week worth of prescription food, overnight stays
Emergency = $250
blood work = $100 to as much as $400
pancreatic lipase =$200
I/V, meds, = $200- as much as $1000
week worth of prescription food =$50
overnight stays = to $20 a night
$1500, yes, send to LSU Vet school, $2000 as you walk in the door without any treatments.

The high cost of potential vet bills is why I made the decision not to get a dog. Didn't want to/couldn't afford an serious health problem.
Got a cat instead. Paid for his shots and nuts cut off but if he gets sick from here on out that's on him.
To answer teh OP, price doesn't seem exorbitant from prior research I've done. Prices regularly get into the thousands with surgery and overnight stays.

My 10 yr old beagle has a chronic ear infection. After numerous ear cleanings, antibiotics, etc he still has it. Vet wants $4000 to do operation. I'm not going to spend that. The vet says that the infection will eventually kill him

Need a new Vet. Learn to clean them yourself or ask the Vet to show you how.

Just went through something like this. Wasn't sure if it was the pancreas or something else that was infected, but that knew it was an infection from the elevated white blood cell count in the blood work. Two visits, and spent the night with an IV of antibiotics when she couldn't kick her fever. Just over $700 for everything. She got most of what you listed outside of prescription food and pancreas specific medicine.
