My golden retrievers face is swollen up. It's right around her mouth that's swollen, not her neck. Eyes are a little puffy. Gave her Benadryl just now- looked online and that was the suggestion and to monitor and if it worsens take her to an emergency clinic.

Anyone had similar experience? Not sure how long to wait before taking her/how fast it should go down with Benadryl if is just a minor allergic reaction. I don't know how it happened. She's outside a lot and we have bees so it could've been that. She's never done this before though (only a year old). Could be overreacting but I'm worried.

Did you check her well for a snake bite?

Could be a bee sting.

Could be a snake bite. My labs used to get bitten around their mouth/nose trying to smell them, first time they would swell up a lot and it would be less severe each time they were bitten

Not a lot of snakes around here but didn't check for that, not even sure how to. Nothing that looks like a bite

Probably snake bite or bee sting. Benadryl will help. As long as the dog continues to eat/drink I wouldn't worry too much. Should go down in a day or so.

Answer seems to be in the topic title... take the dog to the "vet" and get some "advice"

Vet office is closed and we live 1.5 hours away from emergency care. We called emergency care and are following their instructions but didn't know if anyone had personal experiences or knowledge

Best thing I got for ya then is to use the google machine. Only guess here is going to be a bee sting or a snake bite.

Sounds like a wasp lit her up. Benadryl should do the trick.

My boxer mix can't leave bugs alone. She gets tagged a couple of times a year.

My daughter's dog had a fat lip from a bee sting. As someone said if the dog is eating and drinking it is ok.

I could possibly be Blasto, look it up and see if the symptoms match and if it does get it to the vet tomorrow

Sounds like you're doing the right thing already. Follow the advice of your ER vet. Just make sure the pup isn't experiencing any difficulties breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, or pale, tacky gums. If so it's time to leave

Had it happen because of an impacted tooth. Swelling went down after a day or two but had it pulled.

Sounds like your dog has a peanut allergy.

I had a cocker that this would happen to every summer, sometimes 5 or 6 times. This dog was a retrieving fool. He would carry a tennis ball around in his mouth. We could not believe he was getting snakebit constantly. One day I saw him playing with something out the window at dusk one evening. I went to see what he was doing and he spit out a half crippled toad. Sure enough, about 20 minutes later, his lips were all swollen up. We thought about sending the little fricker to rehab.

Oh come on - let him live a little. Who didn't get curious about psychedelic toads after that Bevis and Butthead episode?

Awww those poor babies

OP....something similar happened to my pug one time when we boarded him at the PetHotel at PetSmart. They took him to an animal hospital, gave him Benadryl, and kept him overnight to monitor him to make sure swelling went down and he could breathe. He was fine. We think some bug bit him. I think the main reason they kept him overnight is because he is a pug and with their small smooshed faces...swelling could easily compromise their breathing.
