I purchased a necklace via eBay my girlfriend has been wanting for some time. It wasn't too expense ($45). Tracking said it was delivered "in/at my mailbox" on Wednesday. It wasn't there...

Do I have any recourse here or am I just shite out of luck?

Should have given your postal service employee some cookies for Christmas.

They don't like to look bad so they'll say they delivered something when they were scheduled to but not deliver for a few more days. If it's in a box too big for the mailbox so they have to walk it to your door they rarely do it on days it's raining.

USPS... you're SOL

The same thing happened to me, they told me Amazon has insurance for it and I should go through them. I told the lady it was their fault the item went missing and amazon shouldn't have to pay for their mistake. (I assume it was delivered to the wrong address as it showed as "delivered")

Lady at USPS told me it happens all the time and I should just let Amazon handle it. I dread any orders that show being shipped USPS.

Same thing happen to me. I filed a form to say i never got it even though it said it was delivered. Got a letter from USPS sorry it says it was delivered. You may be shite out of luck unless the buyer had insurance. I would have been pissed had it been more then 50 bucks. Another reason to hate the USPS and i agree " I dread any orders that show being shipped USPS. "

Unfortunately, that's what I was expecting.

Hope you didnt spend alot on it. I hate the USPS. The letter was like well it shows it was delivered. Yeah my fault that i have a street mailbox with like 10 other houses and i just filed a claim for fun. Well i hope either the mail lady or neighbor enjoyed my item.

I hate to tell you... and before you call and escalate this issue with USPS - you're shite out of luck. Someone more than likely stole it.

USPS is fast, cheap, and good IME, the rare 3 out of 3. I've shipped and received a LOT of stuff over the years, and I've had exactly one problem, which was actually a mistake by the recipient. In contrast, Fedex has misdelivered one package and lost another, which I filed a claim for and received reimbursement. UPS has been reliable, but they're slow and expensive. USPS is my method of choice, and it ain't close.

Lie and tell them you have a camera recording of your mailbox that shows that nobody opened your mailbox between the Mail delivery and you, and you will be reporting them to the authorities for stealing mail, which is a felony. Might scare them into compensation.

Don't waste your time dealing with USPS. They really only deal with the sender. Contact the seller directly first and see if they will send you a new one. If no / unsatisfactory response is given, open a dispute with eBay.

File a claim on the USPS website. I got a refund recently for a package they didn't deliver and wouldn't return to me.

We have a camera on the house, I went back and looked. I told USPS that the mail carrier never came. She shrugged it off. I'm sorry sir, Amazon will pay for it.

At this point, I wasn't upset that the item didn't arrive, I was pissed that they expect the shipper to pay for their obvious mistakes.
