First time ever using the service. I will say it is pretty cool. I still don't get the unending love for it, but I will use it again.

I will say the surge pricing is a bit insane. For a round-trip Uber the going trip was about $11 and the return was $45. Not sure how that compares to a cab there

it is certainly an interesting business model and seems to provide good service at a reasonable price...I think the hysteria has worn off, though...

Uber is good in large part because the drivers seem not to smell like shite or shout into their Bluetooth in African while you get carsick in the back. Also, not using your wallet or contents thereof is nice.

If you take a taxi a lot, you understand the love and lack of smell for uber

In New Orleans at least, Uber seems like an absolute necessity. No one wants to drink and drive. But it's very difficult to get a cab to pick you up at your residence on a Friday or Saturday night to take you downtown, since they only hover around the airport and the Quarter. I've waited for two hours before. And there are only a couple of streetcars running late at night.

They've even moved out to the Woodlands now. Pretty nice deal.

How can you not see the hysteria? It's a huge debate among cities for a service that is life changing.

Ive only used Uber in Boston and honestly it wasnt necessary. Used them to/from the fenway area and to the airport. Cabs were everywhere

In nola I've never had a problem getting a cab in the am to the airport, call the night before and the cab is waiting outside. However, if you want a ride at the end of the night cabs in nola do not service residents well. They only look for short fares.

The niche that uber/lyft would fit in nola is needed. Took me an hour to get a cab from downtown to jazz fest last year. Cab call centers suck they might dispatch them to you but they pick up other fares instead.

Well it would obviously be less necessary in the northeast and in large cities with good public transportation and infrastructure.

It is great for southern cities and has been a huge hit on the west coast.

Cabs were way more expensive in NYC, but the Subway is the way to go there

I had tons of beers. We went to Top Golf too. You should have walked around screaming "Thib-a-doe" and I would have been there

Any small to medium city. All those cities that blew up after WW2 are prime picking for uber. It is almost a necessary thing in today's suburbs if you want to go out for a night. Any opposition in a suburb is a straight money grab.
