OK OT brothers a friend of mine is looking to buy herself a little "fun" car. She is looking at a 2013 BMW i135.

This one: BMW

For those in the know - how is the price and how much of a PITA is the maintenance on this? Decent car or not?

TIA

As her best 'guy friend', you should buy it for her.

Should be fine. You just got to understand going in that if any repairs are needed, she will be paying a premium. Look at Lexus, too. Very good quality.

Terrible idea.

BMW maintenance costs skyrocket +/- year 5. Their resale value also goes down the toilet.

It rates pretty high in reliability

Ask owner if they took it in for the airbag recall though

Can't do it. She is easily IRL'd at that point she used to compete nationally in fitness and there is a ton of pics out there of her with her first and last name. I am not unleashing the hard legs of the OT on her...

2013 models are held in high regard. about $20k is fair

would consider

low miles, looks like it is in great shape. probably some old person garaged it and took out rarely on weekends.

She should see if an extended warranty is available from BMW.

Yeah, sounds like a personal problem. None of this impacts the OT at all.

An i135 would def be a fun little car. Lots of power and torque from the turbos.

Now, the key factors are mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.

The turbos will eventually need replacing depending on mileage and usage. You can get 100K out of them if they have not been pushed hard.

I would have an independent German car specialist look at it. There are common problems among BMWs. They will know what to look for.

If it is fairly low mileage (>40K) and has beem well maintained, and is a good price, I would think it's okay.

Make sure you have an independent specialist handy. There's a huge difference between their costs and the dealers. And the dealer wants to only replace whole systems, not diagnose specific, less expensive issues.

ETA: I meant <40K.

This.

Fun cars, but be ready to spend for maintenance. Oil change places wouldn't touch mine. It was either do it yourself or go to the dealership.

Go to Academy and look at their womens fitness boxes she is on a good many of them. That's about as easy as I am going to make it for you.

Looks ok, maintenance will be some $ but that is expected if you take care of your cars. Don't be so afraid of the dealerships, they are trained on the cars and sell original parts, getting things cheep can cost you down the road.
