I am interested in tips to tackle the curriculum while balancing family life.

Any advice regarding electives, etc.?

Also how’s the on-post housing for those who have been?

SAMS & CGSC graduates: "Look at our big brains, you can tell we're the smart one by the proportionality in our heads, and also our ORBs say we went to West Point. We can read a book each day. Would you like a lecture on Design? We know more than Clausewitz, by the way. We are math wizards. There are 245 duty days yet we put 270 days worth of mandatory training in AR 350-1. And no we don't see how that's related to the UCMJ.

We generally don't do PT or wear our cover, no, but it's kind of complicated and you wouldn't understand, you see, we have PowerPoint slides to make for the working group meeting, to determine if we need to write a decision memo for the boss on whether NCOs should be allowed to structure training for their troops without prior authorization from brigade and above leadership levels. Our preliminary analysis led to a recommendation to establish a 1-star Directorate, suitably staffed, to tackle similar problems in the future in order to free up the battle staffs and major combatant commands to complete core items found on the OER Support Forms of most in the O-7+ cohort. Previous work established the OER Support Form as the guiding document that determined one's success and career satisfaction, as opposed to metrics derived from unit performance, budget stewardship, and mission accomplishment. This is an important way we flatten the architecture and streamline the flow of best practices down to the troops.

By the way, we forged new leadership paradigms and novel methods of gaining trust among our subordinates by banning energy drinks, using AI to create training schedules, and pulling all land and ammo management up to Division levels, thus freeing up staffs at lower levels to conduct more CUBs, BUBs, Sync Meetings, and immediate staff sit downs to respond to higher HQ information requirements and to increase information flow to decision nodes at the strategic level.

By the way, do you like what we've done with doctrine? It's based on the latest pedagogical research work funded by DoD at our nation's leading universities, from researchers with absolutely no understanding of the military at all, yet we think this will provide needed progress.

Our cohort has more Meritorious Service Medals than any other in the Army. If only those poor enlisted and OCS people had our brains, we could make the Army a great place. Why won't they listen to us?"

Everyone else: I just asked what you did in the military.

CGSC isn’t really that elite. It’s an honor, don’t get me wrong. But the top O-4s get sent to sister service schools, legislative liaison positions, etc.

It’s still a big deal, but your joke just doesn’t make sense.

Enjoy the year.

One of my professional regrets was electing constructive credit for CGSC (long story, but this was circa 2013) and foregoing the year at FLKS. Really wish that I had completed the residency program as well as competed for SAMS.

You got my upvote. Your last name doesn't happen to be something related to small airplanes, does it?

My SIL is there right now going through it.

They live on post, the housing is old and pretty worn. He says they recently changed the curriculum and the workload is pretty intense. He hasn't had a lot of free time.

Congrats on selection for resident.

No advice to give you. Finished it by (very) old school box-o-books in 2003 while in Afghanistan. Ended up being selected for resident USAWC six years later so I did something right.

ETA: Or the Army had very low standards. Could be that as well.

If you are part of a Facebook group for your branch (I am guessing you are a 42) then ask the question among your peers. Would anticipate there is an anonymous feature for posting so you can get some good feedback.

Again, congrats. Best of luck in your future career. It will be over before you know it.
