Please tell me this tiger didn't live in a small cage since 2001?

Nobody is hot and bothered by 10 mexicans living in a 1000sqft house.

1. Because that's what this thread is about
2. Why should we be? Are they in a 1000 sqft jail? Do they have to live there? Are they not allowed to leave?
3. Go visit Central America and have a gander at the living conditions there. Then come back and complain about this.

He did, but was able to break out of his cage one night and chasing people around. He was even able to catch a couple of people and bit them on the arse. He was super pissed off that night.

That cage was as good as the old Mike the Tiger cage. Not sure what y'all are all bitching about. If Tigers didn't want to be caged by man for our entertainment they should have developed bigger brains and an opposable thumb.

Depends. Are you hot enough for people to put up with that shite and skinny enough so you don't have to fall back on your personality?

Man, this is great.

When PETA was petitioning and filing suit and being generally irritating to the guy who owned Tony the Tiger, this board was squarely on the side of the owner.

PETA and other animal rights groups tried for YEARS to remove Tony from his shitty enclosure.

This board--especially the OT--continually and automatically took the anti-Animal Rights side, because Animal Rights activists are generally liberals.

Now that Tony is dead and gone, this board declares his home a "shite hole", and the tiger had "no life".

This is fricking rich.
are you a tard?

No one that i ever saw on here agreed on keeping this tiger in the shite conditions he was kept under. But it wast illegal. People were against peta because they were trying to get this guy in trouble even though he wasnt breaking the law.

You might not be very bright if you dont understand the difference.

Him confined to that shithole cage was a CRIME...very difficult/troubling regarding the thought process of the "owner"....what's worse was the apparent inability of ANYONE, in a position of authority, to be able to do something to help that poor animal for DECADES !!!
Shakes my faith in the ability of man to do good !
This.I would push my car across the Spillway or over the MRB before I would ever stop at that truck stop.

I'll go against the grain a little bit in this thread. Despite riding/driving down 190 a countless amount of times growing up, I've never actually been to it up close to know how shitty the cage apparently is.

But I did Google it one time and remember reading that the tiger was rescued when it was young and orphaned (obviating his ability to hunt), and would basically die immediately if released into the wild as an adult in his prime. I don't know if true or not, but it seemed that that Tiger's options were confined to either some form of captivity or dying in the wild.

The habitat Tony was in was crappy.

To me the worse part was the proximity to a gas station and an interstate.

Apparently in an update to the story the owner will have Tony stuffed and mounted at the gas station, and will also be looking to acquire another tiger for the gas station.

Update: Tony the Tiger (Tiger Truck Stop) has been euthanized by AndyCBR quote: LSU is setting the bar with Mike. Put that damn tiger in the cage and roll through Death Valley. Glad I grew up in a time when this simple act was not viewed as some type of mistreatment of a glorified house pet. The piss poor football, piped in music, paid parking, and outrageous concessions sure made up for it though...

FYI. Memphis has a tiger named Tony. They still put Tony in a cage for stadium days.

You’re so full of shite. Every time that tiger was brought up this board lambasted that shitty truck stop. Funny how people missremember things like that.

Yes, but ironically that tiger outlived LSU's last tiger by 6 years or so.

17 years is above average for a caged tiger and twice the average lifetime for a tiger in the wild.

Ive stopped there maybe three times for fuel and once to take a crap ( I was sick and there was no other choice).
Place is a shithole. I never did see Tony, even when I looked for him. Certainly wasn’t the best environment for the tiger, but I don’t think the owner deserves all the hate.
