Just let the animals live as they are. It really isn't asking too much.
It was born in captivity you schmuck. Releasing it would be a death scentence to the animal.

Well that picture changes the narrative just a bit. The picture from the WBRZ page of Tony was for max effect.
Yeah that's actually better than Mike's old habitat.

No tiger deserves to live in a cage at a shitty gas station.
Being trapped in a poacher's snare in the wild would be so much better.

There is a good 20minute podcast about Tony. The program is called Criminal. It is by Phoebe Judge, who you often hear on public radio. Criminal podcast
La passed a law outlawing ownership of big cats and such, but you could get a permit. The Animal Legal Defense Fund filed a suit and claimed the truck stop owner did not meet the qualifications. They won. The owner then hired lobbyists and got a new bill passed that Jindal signed that allowed him to keep Tony, but after Tony is gone that’s it.
The podcast says the cage is more than 3,000 sq feet. The owner said he spent over a half million on legal fees. He really wanted to keep the tiger.
He said in the podcast that avg life in captivity is about 20,and Tony was 16 when they did the interviews.

The old Mike the Tiger enclosure at LSU was only 2000sqft.
quote:
The old enclosure for Mike the Tiger was only 2,000 square feet in size with minimal amenities. The new environment created for Mike is over 15,000 square feet in size with lush planting, a large Live Oak tree, a beautiful waterfall and a stream evolving from a rocky backdrop overflowing with plants and trees

Man, this is great.
When PETA was petitioning and filing suit and being generally irritating to the guy who owned Tony the Tiger, this board was squarely on the side of the owner.
PETA and other animal rights groups tried for YEARS to remove Tony from his shitty enclosure.
This board--especially the OT--continually and automatically took the anti-Animal Rights side, because Animal Rights activists are generally liberals.
Now that Tony is dead and gone, this board declares his home a "shite hole", and the tiger had "no life".
This is fricking rich.
I fully support his rights to keep Tony the way he did - tigers aren’t protected by the constitutions of either the US or the State of Louisiana.
I also fully think it was a shitty thing to do.
Why do so many people have trouble separating (especially on the PT) the two?

RIP Tony
I'm no tree hugger but was not a fan of this truck stop.
Not even a fan of zoos. Poor animals need more space to move around and feel free.
LSU is setting the bar with Mike.

What I find awesome is that everyone ignores that at one point tiger truck stop actually was the most successful tiger breeding program...in the world. When I was 3 or 4, I can remember playing with baby tiger cubs behind the counter. Certainly not an ideal scenario for big cats, but tony couldn't really leave once he was by himself there. Doubt he would have worked in a sanctuary or zoo.
There's so much ignorance and melting snowflakes (from those who otherwise probably throw that word around 23x a day) in this thread.
ETA: snowflake- instantly seizes on the emotional aspect of an issue without any regard for logic or the other side and then fights like hell to the death.

Has there ever been an animal that died of cancer that lived its entire life in the wild, assuming it never ate any food provided by a human?
How in the hell are we supposed to know the answer to that question?? Sorry dude, the results of the autopsy of every animal to ever die in the wild have not come back yet.

Put that damn tiger in the cage and roll through Death Valley.
Glad I grew up in a time when this simple act was not viewed as some type of mistreatment of a glorified house pet.
The piss poor football, piped in music, paid parking, and outrageous concessions sure made up for it though...

Allow me to begin my four part rebuttal.
1) I have never used your silly word.
2) The wild tiger population is under 2300.
3) Any successful effort to maintain the species should not be squashed.
4) I'm surprised you were able to stop sucking cock long enough to post.
