You can; however the employer can also challenge it. Normally a dick move on the employer unless you get canned for a very good reason.

My boy, boozie the OT lawyer, will be here when they arrive tomorrow! May even get SFP to come over from Lake Chuck. The 2 of them will have HR trembling!

I'd type up a 2 week notice (date it today) and bring to the meeting if the conversation is going the wrong way throw that to them and peace out

I got shitcanned and they denied my unemployment I found a job 3 days later so it wasn't worth fighting but they can be dicks if they want to

Happened to me. Company was going through a RIF I worked remotely and HR insisted I be in my office that day (had an office even though I worked from home or the road 80% of the time).

I was fine - not part of the RIF but for whatever reason HR insists inwas there. I charged them mileage for wasting my damn time, chewed the VP of HRs arse and went home at noon.

Could be similar for you or you are about to be fired. One way or the other.

I've been through layoffs, but had we all had an idea they were coming. We had a mandatory company-wide conference call first thing in the morning saying there would be changes and to expect a call. Turns out if HR called and asked you to come see them then you got axed. If your manager called then you were safe and briefed on new responsibilities. It sucked.

Hopefully yours is over something small. Good luck.
