Update on the job hunt. Yesterday's application drop off was a success.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback so far

So we only made it to 8 places altogether yesterday. Was unable to make it to Kroger's, Arby's, Lester's, or Pizza Joker.

I didn't go into any of the places, Randall went in by himself, I was just the driver. Thought going in with him would make him seem dependent on me and not independent.

First place we went to was Dennis's. Manager wasn't there, simple application drop off. Disappointing but we moved on.

Dropped off application to Subway. That was it.

Then we went to Wendy's. He got an on the spot interview and offer there. He said he will mull the offer and we moved on.

Albertsons - Simple drop off.

Baskin Robbins he also got an on the spot interview and offer. As with Wendy's, he said he will mull the offer and we continued.

Mastadon Don's is undergoing renovations and therefore is closed until mid October.

Taco Guru was an application drop off.

Got an on the job interview at Taco Bueno. As with the other 2 he got an offer.

By this time it was 5:15 or so and getting busy for the dinner crowd and traffic was picking up so we went home.

So right now Randall has 3 offers:

-Wendy's, $7.85 an hour and five 6-hour shifts a week, so 30 hours a week
-Baskin Robbin's, $8 an hour and four 7 hour shifts a week, 28 hours a week
-Taco Bueno, $7.65 an hour and four 6 hour shifts a week and an 8 hour shift, 32 hours a week

Do you think Randall should jump on any of these offers, or hold out for something better?

And should we still go to Kroger's, Arby's, Lester's, and Pizza Joker or are things looking good enough to not bother.

Take the Taco Bueno offer to Pizza Joker and see what happens.

I'm so happy for Randall.

BR would be the easier job and best for customer interactions.

Now it's time for wage negotiations. He needs to demand $15/hr and see what they say back. Gotta fight for what you want

If those are the only 3 choices, I'd go with the ice cream place. That's only semi-fast food at worst.

Otherwise hold out and follow up with Ace and Albertsons.

This is what we are leaning toward right now. However he said he connected well with the manager at Taco Bueno because he also used to play baseball at the same high school Randall plays baseball at.

Right now its pretty much between Baskin Robbins or Taco Bueno, but he is holding out for a better offer from a place like Dennis's. Mastadon Don's sounded cool but with the renovations who knows how long they will really be closed for.

My first job was the one on Sherwood.

Fired for giving Ice Cream away to friends

Easy job to get fat at.

If he wants to make some real money as a lookout/runner, I got that work. Just stop on any corner on Thomas Delpit and ask for "Peanut".

I noticed this too, but that's a lot for a 16 year old.

When I was 16 I worked at a movie theatre and thought 3 shifts a week(22-24 hours) was a lot.

How is a 16 year old kid in high school supposed to pull 6 and 7 hour shifts during the week and still have time for school work and baseball practice?

This guy is 100% trolling.

I admire and commend Randall for seeking employment, but he's not necessarily shooting for the stars with fast food joints.

shite... when I was 16 I had a job at a movie theatre, and also umpired baseball games, played football and baseball, was in AP classes, and had no problem.

Spring was the hardest. I had baseball practice and games, as well as spring football. I would usually only work on Saturdays/Sundays and maybe a later umpire shift during the week if I could on Wednesdays after our Tuesday Baseball game. In the fall I had football, and only worked on Sundays. In the summer I would work my arse off.

But between now and February when baseball ramps up he will be fine. He only plays one sport.

When I was 16 I held jobs too, but didn't require me to go straight from school to work for a 7 hour shift. You said that these offers are requiring him to work 4-6 shifts a week being about 7 hours long. I'm no parent but I'd want my child more focused on school than getting home after 9-10 PM during the school week just to save up for a car.

He gets out of school at 2:30. If he can get to work by 3 he will be done by 10 for a 7 hour shift or 9 for a 6 hour shift.

I'd have movie theatre shifts that would last until 11 or 12 on school nights. There was a dead zone where I had no football or baseball in November/December/January, and would work during the week at the movie theatre. And I'd umpire games that wouldn't start until 8:30 sometimes and I'd be out there until 10:30.
