Me and the SO did both parks in 1 day this year (the week before Mardi Gras). It was before President's Day and Mardi Gras so the crowds were fairly small. We did IOA's Harry Potter World first, then took the train to Universal and did their HPW. We then finished Universal's park and ate lunch before taking the train back to IOA and finishing that park.

The potter parks are small and mostly shopping. Very easy to do in one day. It's quite possible to do universal/IOA and see most everything in a day and a half to two days.

Universal is a two day park at most. You can see just about everything in one day.

Also the potter rides have single rider options to speed up riding them a lot.

Did it last month. You ride the Hogwarts Express between Hogsmede and Diagon Alley.(You ned to ride it both ways because it's different each way eve though its the same train). The Line to ride Escape from Gringotts is the longest so start and end there (if you're in line when the park closes you get to ride the ride) We rode a lot but we got the VIP passes
