Sounds like your friend should have done more research. First of all, if he graduated college he should have gone officer. Secondly, he should have known that if he didn't make it through SEAL training that he was going to have to go somewhere... more than likely wherever the Navy needed a body.

Yeah, he def knew what he was getting into. He had specific reasons for not going Officer but I don't recall what they were. And that's pretty much exactly what happened to him regarding getting sent to be an IT guy when he has no interest in that sort of thing. His issues with the Navy are very philosophical and run much deeper than what happened to him specifically but it does play a small part in it. I guess my point is what you said, it really doesn't make a shite what you intend to do before enrolling, you are going to get put where they need a body to fill a roll.

He also said the only place he went in the Navy(pretty much every port on that side of the world) that he was ever truly scared was Vladavostok Russia. Said it was like going back in time to the Cold War and you had to travel in groups of no less than 5 in full dress uniform. Only port they were required to do both of those and constantly had to watch their backs.
