Come on man, I know it's growing but, Montana's the 4th largest state and has the population of San Jose, California. I don't know if you can call that crowded.

I think Michigan is fantastic. Western Michigan and the UP are really fantastic.

Agreed on those who say eastern Tennessee - cool spot of the country as well.

Utah is known as a beautiful place, but southern Utah is really spectacular and doesn't get the publicity of many of the other well-known places out west.

Do you want people to say south Mississippi or the wiregrass of Alabama?

No. The OP said underrated, and almost the entire post is states made up mostly of national parks, ski areas, and mountain ranges that receive tens of millions of visitors each year.

I hope you're a female. Otherwise, you whine more than any poster here. Are we supposed to be impressed by that photo? Or Idaho? Anyone who has done any legit traveling has been there. Yeah, it's cool. Great for a few days passing through. Sweet Jesus you suck. The most pretentious poster here without anything of value to actually add. Anyway, thanks for everything you do.

Northern Idaho is awesome. Pend Oreille and Coeur d'Alene are both beautiful areas.

CDA is Lake Tahoe minus the Californians and development.

Other underrated spots:

Northern New Mexico, especially the Sangre de Cristo range. The scenery is on par with Colorado but less crowded and better food & culture.

Wind River Range, WY. Tetons little brother, better fishing, camping, hiking, climbing, sights. Pound for pound the best range in the continental US.

Northern Michigan. The UP down to Traverse City is a Midwestern treasure.

All of Montana and Utah.

Maine is a really well-kept secret. I think New Englanders and vacationing Canadians are the only ones who really go visit.

Acadia NP is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Really underrated IMO. Cheap lobster, great draft beers too.

Just got back from Whitefish. Was actually stranded there for 10 days due to United and Harvey.

Came away really impressed. Plan to go back.

Yea, Flagstaff is a really great city. We drove through on our way to CA a few years ago. Got a hotel and stayed the night, but I didn't want to leave. Really nice town.

Flagstaff is the perfect place for a nice weekend getaway. Love walking around their downtown area. Mountain air just smells so fresh and clean up there. Got all the outdoorsy stuff to do if you are active and if you are not...still enough stuff to do to keep you interested. 1.5 hours from the Grand Canyon, 30-40 minutes from Sedona. 2-2.5 hours from PHX. Flag is my go-to getaway spot whether for the day or the weekend.

I hear housing costs have gone way up there. That many people that work in Flagstaff can't afford to live there now.
