What's the word on this school and this town? I have a friend whose son is considering ULM. I notice the gender distribution is favorable for the kid.

If he doesn't like a winning unless he's into water sports then that's the school for him.

Good pharmacy program. A lot like a JC for the local area since there isn't a JC around there. With that many young people in one spot, a good time can be had. College is what you make it. Is the kid a Louisiana resident?

The school itself is nice. Great nursing and pharmacy schools. The athletics are abysmal though. As far as the town, Monroe isn't terrible but it's not the best. Any reason he's considering ULM?

I would pass unless he is going to Pharmacy School or has a scholarship for the water ski team.

ETA: I went to pharmacy school there.

Slow moving town but there were always lots of hot chicks. Great pharmacy program.

Monroe can be a bit slow. There isn't a ton up there unless the kid loves outdoor stuff (hunting/fishing). At the same time, there isn't anything really wrong with the town. It is a relatively nice city that is pretty laid back.

ULM really isn't a great choice unless you want to some very specific things (pharmacy is one) or want to stay in N. LA

No. He's in Missouri. ULM is making him a very nice offer to go there.

He is considering it because of the scholarship package they are offering him.

i went there from 98-01, had a great time, but i surrounded myself with good/fun people from south la. It's going to be what the kid makes it out to be. If he wants to be miserable he will be.

ULM will do that to lure kids to the university. They have ridiculous requirements to keep those scholarships though. I would have them check into those before making a decision. Tell him to get involved and he will have a blast. I enjoyed my years there.

South Monroe is a shithole but It's not as dangerous as most other southern shitholes.

Monroe used to be a fun town and deserved the name Funroe, but now it is kinda bland, but lots of sloots at the University of Louisiana! #Talonsout

I grew up in the area and got a great scholarship so I went to ULM. Looking back I wish I would have went somewhere else but I would have had a lot of debt. But it's all about what you make it. There isn't a shortage of women.

My son goes there for construction management. Supposed to be a good program for that. He says kids come from all over for the program.
