Not gonna lie.

When they instituted weight classes, MMA became boxing to me.

I no longer watch any of them. . .I just read the results and watch the highlights.

I am not going to pay to see sweaty dudes flop around on the ground atop one another. Could watch WWE for that, and with better production value.

I never found it interesting. Something about ungloved men trying to kill each other never interested me.

Boxing doesn't either.

I don't really care for UFC either but I respect the discipline. Just too barbaric for my tastes.

Do you think in today's UFC, they would ever let someone who is a master at a certain style come to fight?

They would get their arse kicked because they're one dimensional.... so probably not.

We had a discussion about this last night. I think the reason these guys have such a hard time avoiding losses is because styles matter. If you're the best boxer, you're probably not going to lose to another boxer your size unless you didn't train hard. If you're a great wrestler, you might do really well against great strikers who have no ground game, but another great wrestler who hits like a truck might just knock you out in the first. That's what make the UFC interesting.

UFC 100 had

Heavyweight Championship Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir
Welterweight championship Georges St-Pierre (c) vs Thiago Alves
Plus on the card Jon Jones, Dan Henderson, Stephan Bonnar, Mike Bisping, Mark Coleman.

UFC 200
Brock Lesnar in a non title fight, and two chicks, were the Co main events.

Well yes, when it was a high-concept sport that was the question, who would win; boxer vs Judo, Karate vs wrestler and so on. The question has been answered, BJJ beats everything between two equally matched athletes. That was bound to happen.

It's just different now, the formula is solved. It was a meteoric rise where fighters used to have advantages in different styles. It was 10 years of figuring it out. For me it was about a great fighter who was dominating for a period of time. Couture, Liddell, machida, jones, penn. but now everyone is so well rounded. They are like mirror images of each other. People want to see star players dominate in any sport. It's just not as prevolent anymore in Mma

But you gotta admit you're selling 200 a bit short in your description. Tj dillashaw and Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar and joe loazon and gegard mussasi are all amazing fighters.

Still trashy, but makes it more appealing to a less trashy crowd because it involves strategy.

Ummmm the original purpose was to show the effectiveness of bjj.

Rorion Gracie, who is royce's older brother was a major organizer of it. He picked the least skilled Gracie which was Royce.

I'm not using wrestling as a sport to compare with. But they are watering it down with pay per views way too often, just like wcw and wwe did. U need storylines to build up.

They think because it's popular u want to see it all the time. And that the next fight a month later is "the biggest fight of the year".

But bjj did come from judo (kosen judo) which was based off Japanese jiu jitsu

I could do without the storylines that are trying to be enforced sometimes.

I think the ufc has signed enough fighters for multiple cards a month. But that doesn't mean I want to see 4-6 cards a month every month.

I think the fighters are better than ever due to how the sport has evolved and I like that. These guys are also really athletic, I like that.
