1x and only a 7 minute wait downtown last night at 1:45. Pretty solid for a holdiay

ETA: It was a BMW 5 series

In Baton Rouge? This is good to know. Only reason we stayed in last night is because getting a ride home is seeming harder and harder.. even with Uber here. Uber sent out an e-mail basically warning it will be expensive, so we decided to stay in.

It's like Uber coming to BR reminded all the people who used to drink and drive not to do it, so now I can't get rides home

Yeah I was impressed. There were several available when I was requesting. I will admit that we left the bar 15 minutes early solely to increase our chances of getting a cab quickly

Not real sure what the big attraction to Uber is. Tried one in Denver last week for the first time last week on a business trip. We stayed in Golden at the Golden Hotel, took a cab to downtown denver and tried Uber back. It was no more convenient than a Taxi and cost was roughly the same. Are people using this just for the name or just to be different or what?

I think in many, if not most, situations both of these are untrue. It's generally more convenient (quickly access an app, visually follow your driver's location, and don't have to wait outside) and the rates are cheaper (unless maybe it is a peak time). Same thing for Lyft, which is often even a bit cheaper.

For me, the click of the app and seeing the driver is just leaps above calling a cab and wondering if they'll show. If I'm in a loud bar or restaurant, I don't have to move from where I am to call or go outside to wait on them. I get the notification they've arrived and most call or text too.

My last driver was a foreigner and tried to go the wrong way but that was a first and still not bad.

I've used them every time with not much wait at all, even last Saturday when I thought it would be bad. (College Dr / corp area, not campus)

A friend took it after the Ole Miss game, I understand they charge more for peak times. But her ride was $35 and the surcharge was $177. A 212 cab ride? That's insane and should be illegal.

Your friend knew the cost and choose to accept it. Nothing illegal about that. Uber is very clear on pricing with no surprises. She has to accept the total cost before she even booked it.

That's crazy. I need to start an UBER out here in the country. Bet that would go over great

Used Uber last night to get from Barrelproof to Frenchman. Was $19 bucks.

For the most part Uber availability in Nola is awful though. Not Uber's fault because you have to have a permit to drive and the city can only distribute so many permits.

You don't know the cost before you accept. You know the multiplier for "prime time" bug you don't know how much it's going to be. So GFY.

I have yet to use Uber in BR.. Someone put me on it and I've used it a couple times in NYC. Didn't even know about the multiplyer effect till it came here. Up there I thought it was a cheap alternative to the cabs (I guess cuz they try to frick over out of towners) but here it doesn't seem like it'd suit my needs with the multiple hundreds of dollar rides during these peak hours. (Of course I guess dropping a few hundred on uber is better than dropping a few thousand on a DUI)

Used Uber on Friday night twice. No issues.

Both drivers offered bottled water.

EDIT: This was Houston. Both rides arrived within 5 minutes.
