Any town that forces out uber, lyft, or any other similar service clearly does not have its citizens' best interest and safety in mind

especially a big college town where drunk driving is more likely to occur due to kids being stupid

I have some friends that live out that way, apparently a bunch of California hippies are migrating in huge numbers and driving up housing prices astronomically.

Uber and Lyft are helping decrease the number of DUIs. Government should be thrilled but no, the safety of its citizens doesn't matter. To them DUIs are a cash cow.

Oh and.....

I'd give her a Lyft...

I was under the impression it was voted on and it was about stricter background checks for the drivers. Is that not in the interest of safety?

The problem with liberal cities is that libs will listen to any kook who comes along and then implement those crazy ideas without thinking, apparently. I hate that Austin is like that now, 20 years ago Austin was a blast.

It ain't like Uber (in particular) had always had the best interest in mind for people in terms of safety. Do people not remember the stories of people with records assaulting people?

I don't see how these drivers are making profit in the long run with all the miles and wear and tear they are putting on their cars. Bc unlike a taxi, don't Ubr & Lyft require a car no older than 3 years?

I completely stopped drinking and driving because of them. Taxis from New Orleans don't want to come to Metairie to snatch ya boy up. What do you think I'm gonna do when I want to go out if they stop?

Austin wanted to fingerprint drivers. Uber and lyft said no and backed out.

Traffic moves too slow in Austin for there to be any fatalities. It is a total CF.
