re: TV purchase help
What would be the best LED at the same size for a comparable price?

Could I get as good of a picture with an LED TV with the same size and similiar price?

The problem is most LEDs on the market don't have a full array board so their image quality isn't as vivid when compared to a high end plasma (see my previous post about the sharp elite and sony hx950 because those two TVs have said boards). Also plasmas are the only type of TV that can GUARANTEE no image blur when fast moving objects appear across the screen. LEDs are also much more pricey than plasmas on average. If you are willing to step down to something like a 55 inch then you can probably get something around the price of the VT50, it just won't be 60+ inches.

Just pulling up some TVs from bestbuy.com around the price of the VT50 that I would say aren't to bad of a TV are:

LINK

^that is probably the only TV you are going to find below 5k that isn't a plasma and will give you a great picture.

also the Samsung 8000 series isn't that bad, but I've just noticed they tend to not be able to show the extreme brights and darks of certain colors very well. Still not a bad TV though.

Over $3,000 for a 55"?

I'll stick with the extra 10" for $1000 less. Unless the LED blows me or cooks me dinner.

Yea, it just further reinforces the point that has been made multiple times in this thread... Plasma is not only the best picture quality out there, it is also the best value for your money.

Was leaning Samsung before this thread. Now leading towards the Panasonic.

Unless I can get the Samsung for the $1,700 from Tigerdirect, saving me over $500. Doubt that deal will be running a long time though. Hopefully it still is in about a month.

As big of a Panasonic whore as I am, that is a crazy deal on the Samsung that should not be passed up on if it is still going on when you are purchasing the TV.

On a side note, isn't Tigerdirect one of those websites that a step above Ebay? Because Samsung and Sony are UMRP manufacturers and if the seller is an authorized seller then the price will be the same across the board at any retailer(give or take a few dollars).

I think Tiger Direct is pretty legit. I believe they have an actual brick and mortar store here in Dallas. I wouldn't put them on the same level or just above EBay.

Never purchased such a big ticket/expensive item from Tigerdirect, or any site including Amazon.

Am a little nervous to do so. Any drawbacks? Are your purchases garanteed? What if it shows up cracked or damaged in any way?

re: TV purchase help
I'm in the market for a new TV as well. I'm waiting on the 60" panny GT to go back on sale. It will go back to $1699 on Amazon if you wait a couple of days (or weeks). It's currently $1899...

I personally prefer to actually be able to see/hear my big ticket items before I purchase them. And the added benefit of being able to talk to someone face to face if there is an issue is always nice, but I will say Amazon is definitely legit. They have a reputation for great customer service (at least from my limited experience and other testimonials).

I just bought this one today :

Only 120 hz but its got a great, clear picture. I know it's not 240 or 600 hz but it was an upgrade over what we had at a great price.
