Joe Biden's America

quote:

(CNN) - Here’s something Americans won’t be thankful for this Thanksgiving: turkeys might be more expensive and harder to find.
In the case of cost per pound, birds cost about 73% more now than they did last turkey day. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said that comes out to about $1.99 a pound compared to a $1.15 last year.

I was going to buy a turkey to smoke in my grill a few weeks ago and was shocked at the price. I had never purchased a turkey other than for Thanksgiving and thought the price was just high because it was not turkey "season".

A 50 # sack of 16% Protein Laying Pellets cost more than 20 bucks now.

They feed those meat birds 22% protein.

It’s out of control

Kinda sorta is. Same with ham. Sales after the holiday are the best times to buy, then freeze.

I was at Breaux Mart in Metairie last night. There was a sign on the deli case explaining that there was "a nationwide shortage of turkey".

I wondered what had caused the nationwide shortage. Was there some type of turkey blight that affected supply? Had American consumers changed their meat preference to turkey, increasing demand? How is America suddenly short of turkey?

But wouldn't increased feed prices just translate to increased retail prices? How does it translate into a turkey shortage? I'm obviously missing part of the equation. Maybe farmers are under contract to supply turkey at X dollars and it now costs them X + Y to fulfill their contracts.

Heard on the radio bird flu wiped out around 40 million birds. Who knows if that’s true or not though

The article said “bird flu”. Feed cost is nuts.

We ought not make fuel out of corn. That’s why we have oil wells.

That would explain the shortage! And it's more believable than our international cabal of evil pedophiles just deciding on a whim to deprive the underclass of turkey.
