got $7k off of a $50k 2017 Tundra Limited. No hassle no haggle.

$43k for a pickup truck is fricking crazy. Should never have to haggle to pay that much for a truck.

F-150
Not the best selling truck in America for a reason.
Cost of ownership of the F-150 is also cheaper.
I've owned one Toyota in my lifetime. Never again will I own one.

Do you seriously not think resale value of a non-luxury brand is highly correlated to value/longevity/quality of a vehicle?

Well Ford trucks are above average in resale based off the numbers you provided, so...

There has been a lot of BS posted in this thread. From the jump, I've said both are great trucks. That doesn't seem to be good enough for the Tundra guys though.

Wow, I've really enjoyed this thread. I will be in the market for a 4Runner, probably in the fall. I've learned I should buy from a dealership in Texas through Costco.

Thanks

My 2012 Tundra has 117,000 miles and is still going strong. My mechanic said it just got broke in.

What kind of work have you had to do? Transmission, anything? I have a '03 4 Runner and just recently had to change out the rack and pinion steering assembly. Was over a thousand bucks.

Carson, email me about Tundra (my coworkers also has lease coming up on him 14 Platinum Tundra, so you may have option for used or new). Email under my profile

My Tacoma is '96 only thing I've had to do to besides
basic maintenance is replace two lower ball joints on
front left side and one front left shock was easy to do also.

I have to say.. reading this thread has been eye opening. For a long time I have had the F.150 pegged as my #1 for my next truck, but there seems to be more than enough people who have experienced issues for me to write it off an an outlier.. and now think it might be a trend.

ETA: I'm in the market for a new truck soon. Been driving an '07 F-150 Lariat and it's kicked arse save for the plugs going out at 100k (replaced) and theyre actin up on me again at 140k. dont wanna pay to fix em again for it just to happen again

Even this guy thinks his Ford "kicked arse" but wants to get rid of it with only 140k miles.

I expect a truck to last 200k+ miles (currently drive an Avalanche with 190k). I have never considered a Tundra before, but after this thread, they are on my radar.

it could easily make 200k, i just dont wanna go drop $700 on plugs again until im absolutely sure Im gonna keep the truck. It has absolutely kicked arse in every other regard, no other issues since I've had it. the plugs were a common issue with the 5.4L 05-07 models.

only thing troubling about the Tundra is the gas mileage. If you get the 5.0 F-150, you're good. the Ecoboost engines had some issues when they first came out several years ago (im guessing a lot of guys here had those) but theyve since been ironed out, from what I can tell. Tundra and F-150 seem to be the clear leaders right now, though

Killing a Toyota pt. 1

Killing a Toyota pt. 2

Killing a Toyota pt. 3

awesome vids, but we all know that NOBODY makes vehicles like they used to anymore. Toyota is no exception

This is what I was responding to, which you seemed to disagree with.

Is there anything besides anecdotes from Tundra owners to back this up?

The numbers I cited irrefutably support the claim that you asked for backup on. Yes, Ford is above average, by about .6%. Also represents the mean, side by side with GM. In other words, they are the average. Tundra is nearly 10% higher than that.

Try and stay in scope every once in a while.

Guess it never occurred to you that with vastly more F150 owners out there than Tundra owners you might run into such comments more frequently. You could go on any truck forum and find complaints by Tundra owners over leaking seals, bad starters, problems with the exhaust SAS, bad door hinges, and they still have rust issues apparently. Only trend you are seeing is the one you imagine.

I like them both. You really can't go wrong with either.

'13 and '14 F-150 were probably some of the best (and best looking) trucks ever made. Those were the last two years of that F150 body style and pretty much had every kink worked out. The King Ranches are beautiful trucks, and the Platinums are great as well.

I had my mind set on a 2014 F150, but Tundra was a close second and I couldn't beat the pricing they were doing on new 2016 models. I ended up buying a brand new 2016 Tundra Crew Cab SR5 4x4 with TSS package for what a 2014 F150 King Ranch with 50k miles was going to cost me.

I love my truck. It has fewer creature comforts than most (do have Nav, though), but it just 'feels' well built and beefier than anything else I've ever driven, and you can't beat Toyota's reliability reputation. Only downsides in my experience have been the ride (can be a little rougher than most) and gas mileage (sucks).
