I've heard that you can use your CAC card ID as your KTN... but I haven't seen anything confirming it..
Anyone know anything about this?
TIA

I do this now every time I travel on orders. Rarely have to stand in a line to get through security.

Use the DOD number on the back, put it as the KTN in your DTS profile.

I think they should stop this with all these crazy military people going nuts recently.

But I can't use my TWIC which was issued by the TSA. Makes no sense

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP, shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT? 'Cause if it leaks to the VC he could end up MIA, and then we'd all be put on KP.

Defense Travel System, that's how you are supposed to travel when on military orders. That same system has a place to put in your DoD ID number under your profile for the TSA.

DTS = Defense Travel System
Portal for military/government travel.
One of my favorite examples of government waste. They created the system to make it easier to to get reimbursed for travel, moves, etc. It was supposed to get rid of a ton of wasted jobs and offices - basically modernize the whole system and take everything online.
Well they made DTS the most difficult and user-unfriendly system out there. In fact, it is so complicated and awful that they had to hire more workers to walk people through the system while filling it out.
If you want to get reimbursed for a move, instead of doing it all online like it was designed, you have to make an appt, show up in person to a DTS office, and have someone essentially stand over you while you figure out how to do it on the computer.
Glad im out of the Corps.

So what if a service member isn't traveling on orders?

You can use your DoD ID number for TSA Pre-check.
Also, I can confirm that it still works even if you're in the IRR. My security clearance is good for 10 years so I am hoping that it lasts that long.
I am about to get global entry though

It is good anytime. You automatically qualify for TSA Pre check if you're in the military.
It's not some extra benefit - I don't like asking for any special treatment either. You're already in the system because you completed an SF-86 when you joined. Hence you automatically qualify

We should start a hidden military bennies thread. You can get enrolled in "Global Entry" for free. All you need to do is qualify for an American Express Platinum card. The $450 fee is waived. AMEX and several other CC companies will waive all fees on their cards for active military.

Correct and this is true whether military or DoD civilian.

quote:Yes, this is true. If you're in the military or the Air Force, you can use your CAC to pass through the pre-check line.

Yes, this is true. If you're in the military or the Air Force, you can use your CAC to pass through the pre-check line.
Or do you just go down the Pre-Check line and show your boarding pass with a military ID?
