I drain my fuel/ water separator once every week. I have 7k on it and the 2 fuel filters will be changed at 10k which is the next oil change.

Here's a 2017 NEW F-250 XL FX4 Diesel in Charlottesville, VA for a listed $42,899.

Yea, not really comparing apples to apples when talking about a loaded truck like OP is and an XL.

Lots of uneducated posts in the thread btw.

Deals like that are not uncommon and will get more common as the end of the year gets closer, you just have to shop outside of louisiana. Louisiana seems like the worst state in the country to buy a vehicle.

Lamarque had no problem matching TX prices on my last vehicle and I got more for my trade than I would have in TX. If you don't feel like doing any work for a deal, LA is not the best.

My salesman said they do their best to never lose a sale to TX.

Say you will give them an even 41K if they throw in a set of truck nuts.

Durr, I never represented that an XL was a King Ranch.

Here was my point, the OP is looking at a 2014 King Ranch with 40k with zero factory warranty priced at $40k.

That's almost exactly the same price as a new '17 model with no leather or sunroof.

So three years age difference, no idea how the used truck was treated in those three years, no factory warranty, but it says King Ranch on the tailgate and it has plenty of buttons inside.

(And it says to everyone "Hey, look at me, I'm driving a King Ranch.")

Weee!

As someone here said earlier, this kind of "investment" is how poor people stay poor people.

Paying $40k for that specific used truck is the "super dumb" thing here.

This is one of those uneducated posts I was talking about earlier.

Especially even bringing up a vehicle purchase as any kind of investment.

The counter to your whole post is that OP is getting a loaded truck at a $20k discount compared to new. A Ford extended warranty for around $2k will cover him for a significant amount of miles.

But it's just typical of this place. You say you want to buy new, everyone says buy used. You say you're buying used, slapdicks say buy new. You can't win here.

What about buying a new used vehicle?

I got no problem with someone owning a King Ranch if they can afford one.

That three year-old one is not (IMO) a good buy.

A 2017 King Ranch will run you about 76 - 78 sticker based on added options. 40 is a bit much for that one. Being used you could probably get them down to at least 32. I agree comparing a KR to an XL is well, not a comparison.

The killer on these is the diesel is a roughly 9k option.

Diesel from 2014 has a 5 Year 100k warranty from the factory. Gas is 5/60k

Extended warranty, plan to spend at least 2800 to 3000 on this one.

"That's almost exactly the same price as a new '17 model with no leather or sunroof. "

Not even close. That's almost exactly the same price as a new '17, gas extended cab 2wd xl. It would be minus way more than leather and sunroof.

Vs $40k for a brand new truck with exactly the same capability, minus the leather air conditioned seats and 10.5" navigation screen.

They're nice no doubt, but options are where the factories really make the big margins.

I'd personally prefer a brand new XL over a king ranch but I'm not the type who cares about gadgets. If used for work, which a F250 should be used for, the new XL should be enough. Or pay a little more for the XLT, but still a better deal than this used one.

So the only way to truly afford a KR is to buy new?

How would you know? We know almost nothing about this truck and haven't even seen a listing.

This Diesel is not a gas burner, but whatever.
