Thinking about heading to Chicago (first time) in late August to see Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field. Ideally, we would stay close to Wrigley and I have found a handful of hotels within a mile. Is that area nice? Should I stay further south? Looking at Chicago on google maps gives me anxiety because of how massive it is!

Any other things to check out in a weekend there other than the Willis Tower?

I've only been to Chicago once but I'm pretty sure you want to stay south around the magnificent mile area

Stay near Michigan Avenue and take train (not subway) to game.

Hard Rock Hotel, Swissotel, Hilton Palmer, Sheraton and Westin are all nice and "affordable" hotels.

Yeah I would stay along the Magnificent Mile. Plenty of affordable hotels, and that is the main hub of attractions in Chicago. You can easily hop on the EL and get to Wrigley, but other than Wrigleyville, there is not much around the stadium. It is basically surrounded by apartments.

Thanks for the advice all! Looks like the Magnificent Mile it is.

How difficult is it to get around in the city with no vehicle? Debating driving (8 hours) vs flying. I get anxiety getting around either way, but is the El train easy to use?

Once you get there, you'll be glad that you didn't have a vehicle. Very easy to get around.

Your recommendation is correct, but I can't take you seriously. Chicago has no subway.

we stay in Evanston - I don't recall many hotel choices near Wrigley - the city is easy to get around in. Took the subway from the "bean" to Wrigley before the game. Choice privileges has a hotel in Evanston as well I think the Hilton has a hotel in Evanston that we used both and enjoyed them.

we used uber to get to resturants or specific locations or the subway to get to a general area.

We went last April and didn't have issues at all getting around without a car. The L was kind of sketchy coming from Midway, but it wasn't bad at all after that. It was extremely convenient.

Also, we stayed in the Magnificent Mile area. I'd recommend that since it's in the center of everything. The Red Line (I believe) runs from the Magnificent Mile to Wrigley.

Enjoy your time there and get some pizza. We had an amazing time on our trip. Chicago is a great city with so much to do. I can't wait to go back

Very. I'm not sure how long you're going, but you can buy 3 day passes for $20 and 7 day passes for $28. They're available at the CTA terminals outside the airports if you plan on flying

The plan is to fly in Friday morning and head out Sunday so the three day pass sounds like it is for us.

We are really looking forward to going and Wrigley is on my bucket list, granted I will be there for a concert.

We went in April last year. The ivy was dead and brown and they were doing construction on the outfield bleachers. I'd love to go back when the ivy is green and lively

Dude just stay at a 4.5 or 4 star hotel in the Water Tower area - either use Hotwire or your favorite hotel chain (Hilton/Conrad, W/Westin, Hyatt, etc).

Not rocket science. Staying by Wrigley would be retarded IMO.

Yup - this man knows what he's doing

Do youself a favor and have a drink with your woman at the bar in the Trump tower (it's on the 5th floor or so) overlooking the river. The cocktail waitresses in there are and the view of the river ain't bad either

Between the EL and Uber you should be fine.

Try to get a reservation at Ditka's you won't regret it.

Do not rent a vehicle. Use the EL and uber. Buy a 5 or 7 day pass for the EL when you get to the airport. It's very easy to use.
